That's better than I get with my 2019 fx4
I was very surprised to see 23mpg. Of course I was still in break-in mode and wasn't driving aggressively at all, so that's probably why.

I have been loving my 2.7 XLT Ranger so far at around 800 miles. I may get a break in oil change at 1000 miles (I know I am an old man). The only thing I worry about is when to get the Wet Timing belt replaced maybe at 80k?

Concerning the oil pump "wet belt", I would research it at 80k and see how they have faired.....!

The 2.7 is the only reason I went with the ranger, all the midsize trucks are making close to the same power but id rather channel that energy through six connecting rods instead of four, the whole package seems like quite the piece of engineering.

As far as the wet oil pump belt goes, I think the consensus is generally doing oil changes more often as it's things like fuel in the oil that will degrade the belt, and with clean oil it should last a long time. Since this engine is in such a large amount of vehicles, if it turns into an actual high failure point someone in the aftermarket will likely build an improvement part like a chain conversion setup

Exactly. But I'd like to think a chain replacement would be avaialbe sooner, as I would want to replace the wet bet set up completely with a chain driven one as soon as the wet belt was due for replacement.

Maybe the chain set up from the early 2.7 can be added?

I have no idea, just brainstorming.

I wanted to get a 2.3l on a 2025 but it is very hard to find with the options I want. What are yall thinking about the 2.7 v6? Ei fuel mileage and reliability.
TIA
Order the Ranger just the way you want it. The 2.3L is all new for 2025 in the Ranger. It is the same engine that was in the 2024 Ecoboost Mustang. I think it is a superior engine to the 2.7L. It's the engine that I ordered in my 2025 Lariat. The 2.7L uses a wet belt and plastic oil pan which has caused issues in past 2.7L engines.

FUD.

The oil pan issue was in the first gen and was one of the major corrections in the second gen that they started making in 2017 or 2018. It's not an issue for the million or so 2.7's made since the change.

And look at the statistics for the massive number of 2.7's produced and the failure rates of the oil belt. We can dislike the belt on principle, but real world data shows that it's clearly a non-issue.

I think the 2.3 is a good engine that just got better with the addition of port injection, but to say it's better than the 2.7 because of non-issues is just silly.

4 pages of good discussion on a thread pertaining to the 2.7 and you had to come along and let everyone know that the base 2.3 is the superior engine offering.
Awesome first post!

I wouldnt qualify it as the 'same" engine of the 2024 Mustang. It shares a few things, but it's still lacking the same horsepower and Tq.
It shares dual port injection, twin scroll Turbo and electronic wastegate, and some standard components that run across the ecoboost line.

Love the engine. Have 1500 miles on it so far but as someone else mentioned it’s very smooth. Mileage combined for me is approximately 14.1 L/100kms so far which is about 17mpg now but I have added wider AT tires as well (265/70 r17’s). Lots of getup and go but I’ve been driving it pretty easy. I have a Mustang GT in the garage where I can drive it more spirited lol.

Loving every mile of my 2.7L motor here in the Rocky Mountains. Living at 9,000 feet elevation and going up from there with about every drive except into Colorado Springs, a boy needs every bit of horsepower he can get. Rumor has it that Ford Performance will offer a "tune" late this year/early in 2026. Time will tell, but for now I have no regrets with my motor selection.

On a different note.....ceramic coating this vehicle was a smart decision living on 2 miles of dirt/mud roads here in Colorado. It's been raining like heck for 2 weeks and a quick spray with a power washer and a blow job from my leaf blower is easy breezy.

Your videos are great and one of the deciding factors for getting the Ranger. I got an amazing deal on a fully loaded cactus grey 2.7 XLT too! So far I’m loving the engine and ability to zip about SF traffic is a huge plus over a bigger sized truck

Love mine! MPG is around 18.2 around town 20-21 on the interstate...and that's with a GFC on top!
