Well it’s has come time to replace my windshield, a lovely rock or metal item made its way right smack dab on drivers side whilst on the highway and left an absolutely lovely crack, for those who replaced the windshield I’m assuming you guys did it through insurance and was it replaced with an OEM glass? Thanks!

Just cracked mine this past Thursday. It will be replaced by a local glass shop, who was able to source an OEM unit from out of province. Will be done this Wednesday. Will advise how it went.

IMHO:
- Take pics of original.
- Factory Logos, Numbers, everything on it.
- Do not accept any windshield except an OEM windshield replaced by a professional a variety of reasons:
- sound
- structural integrity
- site
- durability
- safety
- leaks
- etc…
- Contact the dealer you purchased it from/local dealer for replacement.
- Make sure they know how to recalibrate any devices attached to the windshield before touching it.
- Have it replaced in a controlled environment, not a random parking lot on a rainy, hot, or cold day.

Good luck

Yeah, I tried to get an OEM and my insurance company told me to pound sand.

Honestly though, I don’t think OEM is exactly state-of-the-art. my aftermarket may better quality, or at least on par

According to the technician my factory windshield was installed improperly “all the way to the right” so the trim wasn’t seated on one side.

Drastic reduction in wind noise and slight improvement with lane keeping after the new windshield was installed “properly”

When my windshield developed a crack. I took my Ranger to the Dealership and told them I wanted an OEM windshield, they were able to get an OEM replacement windshield. They replaced the windshield and recalibrated all the safety features. I had to pay the replacement cost. Then I filed a claim with State Farm and they pay me back the full amount minus my deductible. Over all a somewhat painless process.

Had a rock from A dump truck break mine last week, so it’s getting replaced tomorrow. $200 deductible through insurance. I’ve Had good experience with Safelite so am having them replace it in my enclosed, well lit garage. I don’t know if it’ll be an OEM replacement, but they do know how to recalibrate all the factory stuff.
I‘ll post a review when its done.🤞🏻

Yeah I have had experiences with Fuyao Glass. You can get this glass for pretty cheap and it's pretty good quality. For Ford vehicles, the official OEM replacement glass brand is Carlite. Carlex is a primary supplier that manufactures the glass branded as Carlite for Ford.

Haven't needed one on this truck, yet.
I'd go with OEM, but chances are the OEM and aftermarket are made by the same company, just no logos on it.

I don't know about the desire for Ford OEM. My OEM has distortion in the passenger side, and I was in a rental Ford Edge the other day and it also had distortion on the OEM glass. I am under warranty and undecided if I want to get a replacement.

The glass company I use has said that the non-oem windshields are made in China unlike the US made oem glass. My ex with Chinese windshields is poor. They chip and crack much easy the the oem glass. My last vehicle had 9 windshield replacements during its lifetime with the Chinese lasting less than a year while the Ford glass lasted on average 2 years. The cost difference did not make up for all hassles of multiple replacements per Year.

i called the local glass place after reading this thread again and the price has gone down from 1k to 875. they said there are three types of windshields for hte ranger so they need the vin. they said its 875 with calibration of the cameras and sensors that even the xl/stx have. the calibration costs 200-250 so the windshield must only actually be around 400 which would give them 200 or 250 for the labor
