Can't say I didn't tell you so. This is exactly what I said would happen last year on this forum and nobody believed me. Now that Toyota and GM dropped their LWB trims there will be no way it will be offered by Ford. Leaving only the Frontier to offer it. But your wait was not in vain. Currently the half ton market is starting to tank with inventory levels rising. Their high price points are not sustainable at current bank rates. Mid size produce less then a third of their half ton brothers with Ford/GM. Moving forward the difference in price will be negligible. I'm already seeing half ton chevy 4X4 with decent trim levels with the LZO diesel which is a great engine in the low 50K range (over 7K off MSRP). Its only going to get better with the higher bank rates. By Summers end you will see 15K off MSRP's on full size again. For your needs, that is the direction you should go. I'm looking to do the same. Mid size has finally caught up to full size on the price points. Just a terrible value when your getting less capability. Being the automakers are getting squeezed on their full size offerings they will likely double down on high pricing on their more limited mid sizes. Pretty sure Ford dealers will mark them up as well. As they are notorious for. Plus the Build quality is in the dumpster for Ford. That's a hard pass for me.I’m right there with you driving a 21+ year old F-150. I have envisioned myself driving a new Ranger for years and thought for sure after seeing preproduction SuperCrew Longbed in the wild that I’d be ordering one. This Trailhunter with 6’ bed and hybrid engine changes everything! My only pause on the Tacoma is the rear legroom. With that said, if Ford responds with a comparable truck, say a SuperCrew longbed with a Tremor package and hybrid option, I’d be torn. But, with production problems and limited capacity at MAP, I don’t see Ford Trailhunter fighter rolling down the line next spring. Ford dropped the ball in a big way for the 6G Ranger in the NA market with only one bed/cab configuration, no Tremor and no hybrid!!!
