There is a legal requirement for the manufacturer to issue when NHTSA is involved. However there is not a legal requirement for the customer, us, to respond to the recall. In the case of a mechanical defect, if damage occurs and the customer has refused a recall and the refusal is documented, the customer will be responsible for damage that would otherwise be covered under warranty. In the case of personal injury, there would be a legal requirement to prove you were aware of the recall and explicitly refused to have it performed. The explicit refusal of the repair is the prime factor here - a notification of the recall is not proof of refusal.
Does posting on a forum that one refuses to do the recall count as 'proof of refusal'?

My truck is due for an oil change in 1500 miles. I'll have them pick it from work and do the service and recall.
I have confidence in my dealership. They have specialist for different aspects of work repairs. In other words, the guy that does oil changes is not the same on that does transmissions, or tires, or engine, or body work. This dealership has about 20 bays, all for different work. That's unlike my previous dealer, that had 5 bays for everything.
But just to be sure, I will clarify with them just who will be doing the recall.

I mentioned this before that I think this can really stress Ranger owners out including me. I'm thankful this is a great resource here that I can learn, share and get all types of opinions. Hopefully this issue and discussions don't overly stress people out here ..

I was a bit concerned about this even before you mentioned it. I don't deal with dealerships unless I'm purchasing a new ride or if I have a problem that I can't solve myself due to not having the necessary tools or equipment to fix it and even then I rely on well established independent shops. No way around recalls. I think it also depends on the dealership, I believe mine will do an excellent job but for now, I'm not too worried.

Tell your friend, yes it does.

But I wasn't trying to be an ass, just trying to be little funny. Seems like I failed.

I should have waited but I needed an oil change anyway, so I scheduled the fix and it was done today. Dealer admitted that today they did their first 3 of them. My B pillar molding where it meets the ceiling cloth was left with stress marks in the plastic, was not able to be properly snapped into place (leaving an gap and an exposed tab) and they left greasy finger prints in many places. I examined before driving away and reported it to them. They would have let me drive away. The service manager immediately told me he’ll order replacement molding and have his detail guy clean the ceiling (after he tried with brown paper towel roll and spray upholstery cleaner). It will have to go back after they order the molding piece. I also think the oh shit handle is not as firm as it was and there’s a gap you can see daylight brought that there was not before. Pretty minor but I don’t think I’m being petty at all. It’s just not ok.

Definitely wanna get this done for safety reasons. But i will ensure my vehicle is cleaned inside and out and take pics of the whole cab prior to dropping it off.

Update here: it took the dealer 10 days to get back to me and confirm the parts was ordered but the pillar molding is apparently on back order and they don’t expect to have it for 6 weeks or so (roughly Dec 1).

I wonder why there's a parts shortage for that 😂 Just kidding, probably unrelated.

I'll be setting an appointment for mine, I guess. One of my tail lights has pretty bad condensation inside so I'm going to request it get replaced. May as well start the backlog of recalls before it grows too big.

Seems like like luck of the draw. So mine went in ONLY for 10k service, was defrerring the recall based on some of the posts here. Service Advisor left message car was ready and noticed the recall and went ahead and did it but apologized for not calling because they were so busy, Right side was flawless. Driver’s side, not so much. Gaps in the trim and the tech severed both tethers completely from behind the A pillar trim Instead of twisting to release so doesn’t look like they followed any of the Service Bulletin Instructions. Back at dealer now (Service Manger wants to see it before they order any parts) and was given a loaner. So irritated right now. Can’t believe they would release a vehicle like that to a customer or perform service without authorization.

UPDATE: So now they’ve agreed to order the part but its on backorder till the end of the month. Hold off, if you can.

Hopefully when I get mine done they send it over to their body shop and let them take it apart so hopefully no greasy finger prints. Also have to get my block heater done as that's got a recall on it too(possibly catch engine on fire).......hmmm burn to the ground or airbag not deploying :D

I ran into this problem when I upgraded the driver side pillar tweeter. The plastic clips on the back side of the pillar bend very easily, especially trying to line up the clip holes. There are also two plastic ties that attach (pain in the butt) to the back side of the pillar. It should go back in place correctly after a little persuasion.
