New Oil Drain Plug looks different.

I ordered a drain plug from ford parts for the ranger raptor. The new one (o the right) looks different, it’s got two o rings instead of just one and it’s just longer in general. I haven’t had the chance to install it yet because I didn’t change the oil yet. But it is supposed to replace the old one.

On the website, it lists it as compatible with the 3.0 V6 among other engines. The image on the product page is literally the old one.

So I’m guessing this is a revision and supposed to be an improvement over the old one.

What are your thoughts on this? The part number is ML3Z-6730-B.

I think that’s the one that was on my September 2025 build Raptor. Replaced it with a ronin with a magnet on it.

It seems like the new design with extra threads will give better oil flow control as you remove the plug.

Being plastic, a spare could be a good idea.

That's why I changed over to the Ronin plug.

Nah, they are not meant to be replaced. If they were, the manual would mention it. But you are right, I wouldn’t keep them for a long time.

Personally, I change them after 2-3 oil changes.

I’m not sure why the hate for a plastic plug. Can’t strip the threads out by over tightening. Won’t get seized due to corrosion. Can’t round the corners off a hex head. Unlike with metal you’re not relying on the threads to seal, you’ve got a user-replaceable o-ring.

Still a fine idea to have an extra on hand but it seems like it removes a ton of failure modes. My first oil change it took all my finger strength to get loose but subsequent changes it backs out without any struggle, no tools required.

I don't mind that it is plastic, the problem is that the oil gushes out when you remove the plug.
