Sounds like you have something else going on. Are you listening to distant or low power broadcast stations? I no longer get those, but expected that. You may have gotten a bad antenna. Maybe order another and see. Worst case, you're out a trip to the UPS store to send it back to Amazon.

Hand washing only

i agree but it is winter here and -10c (14 f) and a hand wash is impossible, i take mine to a touchless car wash in the winter about every second fill up. i like that it rinses the bottom too...maybe just a placebo effect but i like it.

this sucks for OP and looks pretty scary to me. that must be a pretty crazy car wash. rangers deserve a handwash or at least a touchless wash ONLY.

What holds the base part in place to begin with?
Is it glued to the roof top?
What keeps the water out?
It looks like a problem design down the road unless I am missing something.

It seems like the inside part doesnt have a large enough washer so the car wash just pulls the end up and out.


I wonder if a person can get to the inside easy enough that a large fender washer, or some large flat plate csn be put under the nut to secure ir down?

The unit bolts in from under the roof liner. It has little clips held down by a screw.

Warning to remove antenna was an early thread back in the beginning of Gen5. I take me off before and never had a problem. Tough luck but there is some good advice in this thread.

Purchased a BuiltRight Stubby and it gets as good if not better reception than the OEM. It sucks for the OP....hope it all works out.

I got the same one that someone else posted the amazon link, but honestly a little disappointed, I knew I`d lose some reception but its pretty bad and I`m in a populated city.

I don`t listen to FM near enough to swap it back out to the original antenna, but I can tell there is a reception difference for sure, especially when I dip into valleys.
