What is a splash guard?Semantics.
We were talking about splash guards. Mine is still not plastic.
But what about a metal splash guard? Is that for hard water? What is a splash guard?
Do you mean skid plate?
Mudflaps are splash guards....
If you mean the steel protective pan under the engine, in the US that's a skid plate, in US its a bash plate....
I have 2021 4Runner with TRD Pro skid plate... your not kidding about it a PITA to take off. Always causes me to have noodle arms when reinstalling. My XL has a plastic splash guard that must be removed every oil change. TBH, it‘a not a big deal. I had a 4Runner once that required to you drop a metal skid to change the filter. Now THAT was a PITA.
Removing the splash guard is nothing compared to Ford’s retarded location for the oil filter itself.
I have a 2025 Lariat with the 2.7l - oil changes are very easy. I installed a Ronin drain plug but then changed it to the UPR drain plug that has a ball valve. I find that you can really control the oil flow very well with the valve handle also it's not two pieces like the Ronin, so you don't have to worry about misplacing the screw in piece. Thanks all! I guess I should have mentioned I ordered the 2.7 Ecoboost with the plastic pan. Planning on installing the Ronin.
Guess we'll see!
Thanks for sharing! I am not sure which I want to go with as as of now...I have a 2025 Lariat with the 2.7l - oil changes are very easy. I agree, to get comfortable you should get under the truck and look around. Personally, I don't find the plug extends to where I think it would be an issue. Also, the cap that screws on to the end of the plug is billet aluminum with a gasket - I did have the same thought as you, so I opened up the valve and drove around for about an hour and the cap sealed properly - I had no leaks. Note, the valve has good resistance more than the Fumoto valves. Thanks for sharing! I am not sure which I want to go with as as of now...
The Ronin seems to have superior build quality, but I'm really not a fan of the two piece design. You never know when you may lose the secondary part that must be screwed in. I also am thinking about installing a metal skid plate for the engine area due to the plastic oil pan, which means it may be hard for me to get my hands up in there to be messing with the secondary install/uninstall.
The UPR QT Valve seems much more similar to the Fumoto valves I am used to on my other vehicles, but I noticed that is is much much longer than the Ronin. If I don't go the skid plate route, it would stick out far too far for me to be comfortable with. I also don't like that the UPR QT valve doesn't seem very protected from accidentally opening. At least with the Ronin, it has a few different safeties in case something fails.
I may wait til I get the vehicle and get under it to assess which one I'll go with. Not like I have to buy it in advance, as I won't get my truck until Aug and then I won't change the oil until 5k miles, which at my rate will take me nearly 8 months to drive that...
