Maybe someone has some insight. My wife has a Chevy Trailblazer. I was referred to a dealer in the NE and they had no issue selling me a Chevrolet warranty in Florida. How come there is an issue with purchasing a Ford warranty from out of state?

Go to a Chevy Dealer in FL and check if they'll honor the warranty you purchased in the NE. If they do, then the only explanation is they are licensed to do so in FL.

I have owned 17 new vehicles in my life. I have never purchased or needed an extended warranty. The way I look at it, I am at least $25,000 ahead of the game if something went wrong. People seem to forget two things: You already have an "extended" powertrain warranty. And people also forget to deduct what they "prepaid" for the extended warranty when they need repairs. No, the extended warranty didn't pay $2,500 to repair (insert repair here.) They paid $500 because you already prepaid two grand. That being said, if you are a person who takes comfort in knowing you have an extended warranty, then by all means get one.

3. NO ONE EVER forgets that they paid for an extended warranty, and it's the first thing a dealership checks when doing a repair (they don't ask you, they can see it in your vehicle profile). Warranty repairs are cash cows for dealerships, much easier for them to file a claim with Ford, than have to deal with an angry customer over how much a non-warranty repair is going to cost.

4. Your comment "They paid $500 because you already prepaid two grand" really isn't correct. The highest deductible is $200, not $500. The options are $0, $50, $100, or $200. You can do between 5 and 10 years, and mileage ranges from 60K to 175K.

With all that said, take a moment to consider the sheer volume of complexity in our trucks. None of this is cheap to replace (electronic components are NEVER repaired, they either go back to the manufacturer for inspection/failure review, or their trashed). My friend you are essentially living in the past. I've also had multiple new vehicles over the years and never had an extended warranty but the technology on my new Ranger is concerning. The fact that if an LED tail light burns out I'm on the hook for a $1,200 replacement and that's one of the cheap things to replace. If that sweet 12 in tablet mounted in the middle of my dashboard goes out that's $2,500 according to a dealership rep I talked to. After 3 years that shit can get expensive.

Not like my 2014 f150 I sold last year where I could replace a tail light bulb for $5. I bought the Ford premium Care that extends my warranty out to 7 years which will probably be as long as I will own the truck, if that long. I got it for less than $1,000. With the way quality in vehicle manufacturing has gone down The tubes over the last five or six years, I almost feel it's a necessity.

Life's too short to read this entire post (I'm joking) but I did read the first three.

1. Yes, I in fact saved a total of 25k not buying 17 extended warranties. That doesn't reset; I don't have to give that money back if I need a 5,000 repair on a future vehicle.

2. The powertrain warranty is 5 years 60K, not 3 years 36K.

3. You are correct, people don't actually forget that they paid for an extended warranty, but most people fail to deduct that amount when they post " my extended warranty just saved me three thousand dollars."

I know this is a touchy subject for people, especially for people who swear by them. And everyone has their on comfort level. I can only say that I keep vehicles between 60 and 100K and I have never needed a major repair after my warranty expired. Good maintenance? Luck? Probably a little of both. But I rolled the dice and won.

There's a lot of "ifs" in your post. But what if they don't happen? Again, it is about a person's personal comfort level. People get comfort out of knowing they are covered for every "if." Your example of the $2,500 tablet is perfect. "If" that tablet broke, I would pay $2,500. A person who purchased a 2K extended warranty would pay nothing (assuming no deductible.) I'm rolling the dice. I might possibly pay $500 more. Oh well.

And of course there are the people who will say "what if" multiple things go wrong? Except for the occasional lemon, how often does this happen? The never buying the extended warranty thing has worked for me 100% of the time since I purchased my first new car in 1985.

What do you mean 'already have an 'extended' powertrain warranty'? 5yr/60K isn't extended, especially when you see trans issues 70-90k miles.
Go to the 5G forum. See how many of those wished they had spent $2K when they need their $13K transmission replaced. It can be done cheaper at a trans shop, but many are skeptic about 3rd party shops.
