Even though I paid $2300, I hope I never have to use it.
It's just one of those peace of mind things. I've spent more on auto and home insurance than that over the last 40 years, and never needed it, but the big man says I have to have it.

From Ford's website:

• New Vehicle Limited Warranty: 3 years/36,000 miles (bumper to bumper coverage)
• Powertrain Warranty: 5 years/60,000 miles (seems like most major things but not all things related to Engine, Transmission, Front/Four Wheel Drive)
• Corrosion Warranty: 5 years/unlimited miles
• Safety Restraint System: 5 years/60,000 miles
• Emissions Warranty: Coverage varies by vehicle

The PremiumCare warranty can give you as close to an extended bumper to bumper warranty as you can get after the factory warranty expires. For people that put on a lot of miles each year or don't want to be surprised with a sudden, large repair bill, this can be a huge comfort to have. Our trucks are basically rolling computers now... to me it seems like a no brainer, especially when Ford wants to charge $180/hr for labor.

They're also transferable, so if you choose to sell your truck before the warranty expires, it can help your resale value.

What do you mean 'already have an 'extended' powertrain warranty'? 5yr/60K isn't extended, especially when you see trans issues 70-90k miles.
Go to the 5G forum. See how many of those wished they had spent $2K when they need their $13K transmission replaced. It can be done cheaper at a trans shop, but many are skeptic about 3rd party shops.

You seem to be a person who needs the comfort that an extended warranty brings. Absolutely pay for one so you never have to worry about the "what ifs" that life brings. And if you are paying 13k for a transmission job then I implore you to buy the extended warranty. My son just got a new tranny in his Nissan. It was around 3k. (I'm sure a Ranger cost more.) As I stated, I never bought an extended warranty - never needed one.

There is a reason why dealers bring you into that back room and push extended warranties. It's not because they are concerned about you. It is because they are extremely profitable. Why? Because the overwhelming majority of the people who purchase them, never use them.

I never bought one or felt the need Until our last 2 rides! Drove my last pickup for 17 years. (2005 Tundra) If you haven't realized things have changed over the years that's on you. Cars are more complicated, parts more expensive, newer stuff breaks! There is a reason the OEM bumper to bumper warranty is 3/36! Labor is insane, and engineers don't consider that someone may need access to part z. If you don't plan on keeping a vehicle much beyond the factory warranty, no biggy. But if you will be a long-term owner, do yourself a favor and get the coverage!

I'm at the ford protect site gretting a quote on my 2025 Ranger XLT (without the advanced tech package, just the normal tech). XLT has RWD only, but it does have the Advanced Tow Package and Locking Rear Differential. As I purchased this in Spring of 2026, I'm getting a quote til 2036 (so 10 years) and 100,000 miles.

The quote for the Premium plan is $3790 with a $100 deductible. or $4245 with $0 deductible.

The Ranger itself cost $34K. So the cost is between 11% and 12.5% of the initlal price of the vehicle, and extends the 'bumer-to-bumper' from 3 years to 10 years and the power train from 5 to 10 years.

Open to comments on this or suggetions for other ways to buy the extended warranty. I'm really only interested in the Ford plan, not a dealer specific or third party plan.

I have never bought an extended warranty. Over 40 years my 1998 Dodge Dakota would have been the only vehicle that would have benefitted from an extended warranty.

Every other new car just had normal wear, brakes, battery, tires and exhaust on a couple of vehicles.

That seems quite expensive.

1. Take that money, put it in a low-cost total market stock fund. At a minimum, you won't touch it for 3/36k. Sell when needed (self-insured).
2. Price out Granger warranty and find a work-around if they don't sell to your state.
3. I'm going with 3rd party via Geico. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) - costs $8/mo and will take me to 7/100k. I'm not sure if the price goes up later, but if it stays $96/yr, it will be less than $700 for my peace of mind.

I pulled a quote for PremiumCare at Granger Ford and it is listed at $2200 vs $3790 from fordprotect.ford.com.

Can someone explain why buying from Granger dealership is cheaper than buying directly from Ford?

FWIW, I have never bought an extended warranty and come out way ahead over the decades. However, I am buying a 10 year 125k for my 26 Ranger. Why? Because I keep vehicles long term and will be retiring in 6 years. With the amount of tech now in vehicles and my income going down right when things are likely to go wrong if they do, it makes sense.

As I said before I wouldn’t buy an extended warranty. But if you choose to know what you are buying. I owned a Collision Repair shop for almost 30 years and in the industry for over 50. The times that I worked with people’s extended warranty’s for window regulators, ball joints etc, those companies always insisted on the very least expensive part available. Never a factory part. The price of your warranty can indicate what the quality of your parts will be used. I would guess a Ford factory policy although maybe more expensive is probably going to get you Ford parts. Just a heads up.
