Did I read somewhere earlier that the oil plug should be replaced on these trucks after 2 oil changes or am I just dreaming that? I did a forum search and couldn't find it.

I don't think there is any hard and fast rule on when if ever to replace the plastic oil drain plug but if oil starts dripping from the plug it would seem to be warranted.

I picked up one from O'Reilly to have on hand, I've changed mine once and put the original back in. I plan to use it until there's a problem. On my V6, it'a plastic, quarter turn plug with a o-ring.

And the oil REALLY pours out of that large hole!

I installed the Ronin drain valve on my 2.7's. It puts an end to the drama with a nice controlled flow.

Whatever happened to replacing an o-ring every few changes? Now we have to change the plug? That doesn't seem like progress, more like enshitification through planned obsolescence.

With the Ronin plug you’ll never have to change the plug or the crush washer. When doing an oil change you can attach a short section of hose to direct the oil into any container.
Plus the anodized aluminum construction adds 5hp and 7ft/lbs of torque.?

I thought Ford had gone to the plastic drain plug on all motors several years ago. I thought wrong.

I wish they had stayed with metal, but evidently plastic pans with plastic drain plugs was a cost saving measure...
