Need to extend exterior mirrors out a little for towing - is there a strap on or similar that you can add to the stock mirrors ?

I kinda of know what you're referring to, as a wider mirror, but how about those peel and stick concave mirrors. Properly placed on the outer edge of the OSRVM, you can see any blind spot behind you.
Also, if you add the trailer to your towing setup, your blind spot warnings will include the trailer.

Eliminating blind spots is one thing, but that isn't the issue he's trying to solve. A wide trailer blocks your view. The only way to fix that is to get a wider view. Convex mirrors impact the angle of your view, but can't see through things.

Ha ha, just talked to ford. They dont have tow mirrors for the rangers. We have tow packages with no mirrors. Kind of like a bed needing support braces. What next. I love my RR, but ford is such a joke. Last ford I bought was 1984, there was a reason for that. I guess I forgot. Over a 1000 bucks for mirrors. Insane for people with more dollars than cents.

I don't fully agree with your criticism. Lots of trailers out there can be towed but the Ranger without the need for extended mirrors. The fact that SOME trailers can block the view is hardly cause to criticize Ford. Different mirrors might be nice, but this isn't a fail for Ford. JMO.

To add on to what @Satex noted about not all trailers really require extended mirrors, I towed an 18ft open car trailer and the standard mirrors did an adequate job. I'm also not aware of any towing mirror options on any of the other mid-sized trucks, so it's not a Ford thing.

An important note to everyone loosing their mind over aftermarket $1600 full replacement extending, power folding, powered, heated, BLIS mirrors ... Ford charges almost that per mirror for the factory replacements with all that tech included. These are not 1G base Ranger mirrors from the 80s

A couple of thoughts on this: I swapped out the mirrors on my F150 for the tow mirrors. They stick out a long ways even without extending, so even if I forget to extend them, I don't really notice all that much difference in visibility. If such a thing existed for the Ranger, I'd switch in a heartbeat just for the lower curved mirror part.

I have a set of those strap on mirrors like the autozone ones. I bought them for my 2006 Ranger. They more or less work, but they tend to vibrate like crazy. You can tell there is something back there but often have to guess what it is. They do make you legal, so there is that.

I haven't pulled the trigger on a G6 Ranger yet. My TT is in spec for tow capacity (4100 pounds dry) but is 8' wide, so the mirror thing may be a concern for me. As popular as these midsize trucks are becoming, I would think an after market solution better than the strap-on but less than $1600 will come available if it isn't already.

I love my F150. It is a tow-beast, but right now it is in the driveway at 6 degrees F. because it won't fit in the garage since we changed houses. I w.as also reminded how much this sucks when I was removing 4-5 inches of snow from it and trying to blow snow from around it a couple days ago. I want my truck back in the garage!

Sorry for the rant.

i never pulled the tow mirrors to the extended setting on my 17 titan. i towed from the bottom of texas to colorado springs multiple times, i towed from dc to the bottom of texas once, and i towed around texas multiple times.

i have also towed with my 04 ranger and it doesn't have tow mirrors. though, that trailer wasn't boxy like a travel trailer.

I agree. On a full sized truck they don't really need to be extended.

Towing with an original sized Ranger was different. I didn't need extensions to tow our 16' Scamp, but my wife hated that camper. When we upped it to a 22' traditional travel trailer, it was another story. I found that I needed the added mirrors, but I also discovered that, although the 4.0 V6 had plenty of power, the suspension was pretty iffy even though I was well below the tow rating of the truck. I went back up to an F150 for towing and picked up a 4x2 Ranger with a 4 banger and manual transmission for my DD. The 5.4 in the 2005 FX4 had plenty of ponies, but they were very thirsty ones!

As you can see, I tend to bounce back and forth between Rangers and F150s. If it were up to me, I'd just get rid of the camper and just tow my boat with a Ranger. The CEO/CFO of the house loves to camp in comfort, so I may end up with a Ranger with crappy strap on mirrors or my frigid F150 in the driveway covered in snow.
