I finally ordered my Goosetune and it arrived super fast. With my mods it should put roughly 110-115 more HP at the wheels according to them. Then I get the welcome email that clearly states 'Do Not Tow" with this tune due to overheating from advanced spark curves, boost and so on. Well that sucks. Goosetune told me that they offer a tow tune which is reduced performance across the board. If I wanted a mediocre tune I would just buy a Ford ProCal. I was told that if I wanted to tow I would need to reflash the stock tune each time I connect a trailer. I'm way too lazy for that. Any thoughts? I'm thinking about returning it and just bailing on the tune entirely.

Just get the procal and then you can use it to tow too.

I am envious of everyone that can get tunes besides the procal. No one but ford offers a tune for the 24 2.3 ranger so thats all i can get

This. Just get the Ford Performance tune. It isn't "mediocre."

Any 3rd party means no warranty.

The 2.3t 4cyl has been around for forever, about 10 years now and in everything from the Focus, Lincolns, the Mustang, Explorer, etc. Im sure there are some cross platform tunes you could look into.

I have the Cobb Access Port and it came preloaded with a bunch of different options for octane level and sport and tow modes and I will add the Goose soon I can switch tunes in less than 3 minutes I have the FPT also but the Cobb is way more advanced IMO
Im running 93 octane and sport tune very cool

Not so far. I have talked to everyone j can email and call that google says can do the 2.3. So far, they say the ecu isnt cracked so they cannot do anything. And since thats a one year engine/trans/platform combination, it looks like no one is interested in figuring it out

What are you towing? My RR is tuned by Unleashed with a 93 octane performance tune. I tow a kayak trailer with no issues. Granted it is not very heavy.

And it’s false about the 3rd party means no warranty.

My Can-Am 4 seater on the trailer with all the gear is just over 4000 pounds.
I never give a warranty a second thought when making changes.

Yeah that’s heavier than my trailer and kayak. I’d reach out to Goosetuned first and ask for any options he might have. He knows what he’s doing and I’m sure they can work with you. Many tuners will give you a performance tune and a tow tune.

I spoke to Winfield. The tow tune is an additional $175 over the initial $1300 already spent. I would love to squeeze as many ponies as I could out of this truck just for the fun of it. But having to change tunes back and forth isn't fun. I wonder if someone will eventually develope something like the 5 DSP tune that I have in my LBZ Duramax in my Hummer H1. 5 specific tunes I can select on the fly.

I could be wrong but I am assuming it also depends on what you're towing and how you drive it. Pulling into heavy traffic with a 7000lb boat will probably be bad for the engine. Towing a 1200lb gheenoe and easing up to speed is probably okay.

The Goose tune is optimized for maximum performance. He's squeezing as much juice out of this platform as he possibly can, hence the high output numbers. Not enough of a safety margin left over for towing.
You have to be upfront with the tuner on how you plan on using the truck.
TBH the stock tune is the best (safest) tune for towing. $175 for a tow specific tune is a bit of a cash grab.

There are 2 or 3 sites that specifically say they can do the 24 2.3. But when i actually talked to them, bo go.

I would love someone to find a place that does but since i have tons of free time at work, i dont think they will find more then i have.

Zfg, 5 star, and one other said they do on their sites but not when you actually talk to them. Even the 5g guys told me places to try and nothing

The issue with towing is I don't know how people going to tow and what people are going to tow. And in what conditions

I've had people tell me they don't tow heavy then post a photo of a 5,000lb load being towed up pikes peak for 30min straight. It's not safe, so I don't recommend it. Even with the procal you're going to get temps up super quick.

If you're towing a dirt bike, it's probably ok in every condition. If you're going to tow a 6,000lb truck uphill, things can get sketch in the summer going uphill on mediocre 91 (on any tune). I'm just open a transparent about letting you guys know the risks.
