Oil choice now that Pennzoil UP changed its formulation.

Ok since I started this "controversial" thread I want to be clear with what I was asking. I just wanted to know what people were doing since PUP changed it's formula. Pretty simple. I chose that ould due to it's thermal capacity as it relates to the turbo bearings and film strength. Is it the best oil, who the F knows. But that is why I chose it.

All that being said I kinda like the trolling and other opinions on what they use and why. I'm a grown up and can make decisions on my own based on what I find to be true.

I value many of you on here and @Mystic you kill me man! @Lion77 you always have great data. My only suspicion is, and maybe I need a tin foil hat, I don't trust Ford to build super reliable, long term vehicles anymore. They need to get the vehicles through the warranty period and then who cares.

I have already had a turbo replaced so oil choice is important. I will probably go with the MC FS for this change.

I think all the manufacturers are just trying to get cars to make it past warranty too. Then they hope it breaks expensively so we have to get another

PUP has always been hard to fine around here. Nonexistent at Wally World.

I've run M1 0w-30 ESP in my Jeeps. Good stuff. Thought about it in my Ranger 2.7L but it does not meet Ford spec and with the wet belt I figured I better stay with something that does.

Going to use this with 5K OCIs. Meets Ford spec and still a darn good oil. I'll do an occasional UOA to see how the engine likes it.

I have a 1 1/2 year left of my PUP. After that will be going to Mobil 1 Truck and SUV. Maybe Pearl refinery, Qatar will be up and running by then.

M1 T&SUV is good stuff too. Getting hard to find for some reason. I'm wondering if Mobil is going to slowly discontinue it.

I'm of the opinion that the two biggest factors if you go with something other than MC (again, there may very well be oils that are better, but gotta verify with several UOAs and how much better is debatable) are:

1. Full synthetic base stock so long term you dont end up with slugging that sizes up timing chain tensioners, VCY solenoids and piston rings and

2. Has Ford spec for oil pump belt compatability. Most of them have pretty good additive packages now, even the semi-synthetics are comparable in terms of cam wear etc. BUT the blended base stocks sludge up much more than FS base stocks and that matters over time.

And as always change regularly and use OE filters. Other than that, most of them will likely have relatively similar performance overall. For the record, im not opposed to trying other oils, im just opposed to claims that other oils than factory synthetic are better without UOAs before and after. The lab analysis matters.

If someone has some showing notable improvements over Ford FS, im completely willing to try it in my truck next interval (just changed mine at 8,248 miles pusing it on purpose to see where its at).

I’m still sticking with PUP For now. Pennzoil is claiming it’s still GTL in a email. who Knows. It meets the Ford spec and I change my oil so frequently doesn’t really matter.

Thanks for the question and using SPEEDiagnostix. Because the change in Oxidation performance with the new formula of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum was so slight, I would not recommend changing away from it. As you get more samples on that new formula, you will have data to make an informed decision, if you see the performance of the oil in service decline.
