Just get the procal and then you can use it to tow too.

I am envious of everyone that can get tunes besides the procal. No one but ford offers a tune for the 24 2.3 ranger so thats all i can get
Unleashed Tuning can do it. Go to their website and reach out to Torrie. You won’t be disappointed. Tell him you want to Torquerules performance tune.

How often are you towing? weekly? once a month? more or less? I guess it would be a hassle to return the tune to stock every time you want to tow, I'm not familiar with that OBD tuner module pictured in the OP. I personally don't think that $175 is a bad price for a tow tune, if you want the best performance possible you gotta pay, otherwise a slightly more mild / do it all tune (procal?) would have been the way to go.

Some people never tow which is prob why the additional tune is a la carte. Would you feel better if the original price was $175 more and it was included? There's R&D, labor, and time behind that additional tune, it can't be free and price will vary tuner to tuner. You get what you pay for in my eyes.

I also has my 2019 ranger and 2017 Fusion Sport tuned by him. He even does revisions on weekends if you send him datalogs. I don't know if the guy sleeps.

Switching back to stock with the AP should be like 5 minutes. What's the issue, the 5 minutes?
He has HPTuners

The Accessport is fast, HPTuners isn't as quick.

ok, Torrie replied super fast and said he can do it but he may have to have the stock file mapped and that may take a while. other then that, its good to go so that is awesome!!!!!

and yes, replied very fast and explained everything in normal people language so i understood what he was telling me.

thank you @landiscarrier for telling me to go there again since its probably been a year since i asked them previously and i forgot them when i was emailing all the tuners last month

The issue with towing is I don't know how people going to tow and what people are going to tow. And in what conditions

I've had people tell me they don't tow heavy then post a photo of a 5,000lb load being towed up pikes peak for 30min straight. It's not safe, so I don't recommend it. Even with the procal you're going to get temps up super quick.

If you're towing a dirt bike, it's probably ok in every condition. If you're going to tow a 6,000lb truck uphill, things can get sketch in the summer going uphill on mediocre 91 (on any tune). I'm just open a transparent about letting you guys know the risks.
Sounds like heat is the problem? I realize the '26 tune isn't available yet. My towing would be a good size utility trailer loaded with brush once or twice a year. Maybe a load of firewood in the bed once at most a year. No major hills. Would that be a problem?

91 octane minimum that's the only drawback (small one).

I wanted more fun, better transmission logic (did NOT disappoint) but still use it as a truck...

The best part is the transmission shifting, because you use that feature all the time what the driving style.

Load and low RPM is the bigger issue. Heat is a secondary issue.

If we add 100ft-lbs at 3000rpm, then someone loads a 5,000lb truck and tows UPHILL, that torque would shift 500-1000rpm earlier which add a tremendous amount of stress to the rods moving at a much lower engine speed, which = rods under a lot of stress for more time.

I'm conservative when it comes to that type of stuff, so I always recommend going to a tune that won't put that much stress on the engine. Will it break? Maybe not.

Some tuners might say it's ok. But I've never had a failure on a 3.0L engine, so I think I'm in the right to tell people what's safe and what isn't as it relates to my experience over a couple thousand of these trucks tuned, and owning 2 that we daily (over 600hp). This is a YMMV type thing, but my recommendation is to not do that.

How does factory tow mode come into play on a tuned truck?

Does it completely solve the 5-6 jerky shift in sport mode? For me it feels like I am towing a trailer and the truck jerks back and forth. RPM's don't stay up to match the shift.

It works the same as factory, as it relates to the throttle response, engine braking, etc.. It just isn't needed since you can't tow on a perf tune

Not sure what you're going for as far as adding HP but I've owned and modded my share of fairly fast vehicles from 2019 Shelby GT350s to various year M3s and a surprisingly quick (sub 12 second 1/4 mile, stock) Scat Pack Charger. Anyway, just saying that I haven't always driven only pickups. I got the Ford ProCal tune and I am extremely happy with it. The difference in the midrange punch is rather surprising, definitely punching above its weight. Have you driven one with the Ford tune and just thought that is was not enough giddyup for you? YMMV but to me it seems just about a perfect blend of easily noticeable extra punch without sacrificing realiability and longevity. Bang for the buck is outstanding. Icing on the cake for me was when my fiancé noticed it from the passenger seat the first time we jumped into traffic from a 10 mph roll.
