Yep, all good.

But where this gets fuzzy is when a part that is directly affected by the power output of the engine fails. Clearly the 4x4 actuator isn't affected by that, so there would be no question that it's still covered (if it's even covered at all in the powertrain warranty - seems like that's electrical and covered in 3/36, but I digress...).

In a previous discussion, I used the transmission input shaft as an example (because I had an actual warranty claim on a previously owned vehicle with this problem). Four years and 50k miles down the road, you're heading up a hill, hear a pop, and all of a sudden you lose power. Engine is still running and revs just fine, but the truck just keeps slowing down. You have it towed to a Ford dealership, and they call you a few days later to inform you that your input shaft is broken, and that you'll need a new transmission which will cost approximately $6500. Of course, you remind them it should be covered under warranty, but they remind you of your handy-dandy ProCal tuner mounted on the dash and state unequivocally, "The Ford Performance tune allowed the engine to create a level of torque that exceeded the rated torque handling capacity of the 10R60 transmission, thus voiding your 5/60 powertrain warranty."

Unless you've got a team of ASE certified mechanics to perform transmission forensics and another team of lawyers to "prove" the input shaft failed because of a manufacturing flaw that only manifested itself after years of usage which had nothing to do with the extra power your engine has been making during that time, you're going to be a whole lot better off just paying the bill to get it replaced. Of course, Ford Motor Company knows that you DON'T have access to these resources and knows that they will bury you in legal filings if you fight them.

So yeah, "As stated by Ford, the 5 year powertrain warranty is unaffected by this tune..." Good luck with trying to get them to fulfill an actual claim on that warranty on any part that creates or transmits the extra power created by the tune.

If you still don't understand how the corporate legal system works, I suggest you pick up the phone and consult with an attorney.
Thanks. This is exactly how I interpret what I have read so far. I think I will still get the tune as at least there is some warranty and I don't drive the truck at anything approaching its limits.

Yep, I ordered my tune the second day it was available. I'm just realistic about how it will affect the powertrain warranty beyond the 3/36 period.

And one more thing - everyone needs to be sure to understand that the Ford Performance 3/36 warranty is from the the day you bought your truck!

If you've got 35k miles on your truck when you have the tune installed, then you're getting 1,000 miles of warranty from FP, and then you're back to the risk of fighting Ford to cover you on the remaining 24k miles of the 5/60.

It's 24k miles but who is counting?

I completely agree!!
I'm not risk adverse.
I simply want to be educated on the risk that I'm accepting.

Good lord, I just called my local dealership that I have used for service and they quoted $600 just for labor for this. Want $750 for the unit. Is this normal? He said it would be between 3-5 hours of work to make sure everything is working properly........ heh.

That sounds like a lot. I would want to specifically know what testing is involved.

I had the Ford tune on my 23 Ranger installed by Livernois Motorsports and I was out of there within an hour.

We can speculate again and again or respond with gloom and doom scenarios and it amounts to nothing. Literally no basis fact. Each issue will bare its own result. None of this is anywhere near factual or accurate in accordance with actual reality.

I can experience say from decades of personal experience with Ford; it’s not happened with any Ford product I’ve owned. Even those with Ford Performance tunes and parts. This is factual, not speculative thinking.

I’ve already given one specific power train example without GT500. Ran a Cobb tune on a Fiesta ST along with many Mount Tune performances parts and never had any issues with warranty related work.

You can cry wolf or the sky’s falling, until you’re blue in the face and it all amounts to nothing.

My question to those crying wolf; have you been denied warranty repairs because of a tune with the Ranger Raptor or any previous Ford product? And if so why????

Ya, the guys @ Lethal said it should take like a 1/2 hour to install in the truck.

As stated by Ford, the 5 year powertrain warranty is unaffected by this tune…
If there is a tune related powertrain failure within the first 3 years or 36k miles (such as a turbo hose blowing from increased boost pressure) then the Ford Performance warranty covers it.

If there is a non tune related powertrain failure after 3 years/36k miles but within 5 years/60k miles (such as the 4x4 actuator on your transfer case failing) then your standard vehicle powertrain warranty still covers it.

This has been stated about 20+ times now people… If you still don’t understand how the warranty with this tune works then I recommend you pick up the phone and call Ford Performance yourself!
When the transmission grenades in your union built RR at 37,000 miles, you will be paying out of pocket for the replacement. Ford will 100% put the blame on the tune.

Sorry, I’m not buying it. We live in the age of social media. If their performance parts were wrecking vehicles and they were refusing to honor warranty claims, they would be getting crucified online, and the sales of those products would go in the toilet. It’s in Ford’s best financial interest to release good products and honor warranty claims.

The more I am reading these comments it makes me want to wait and let the first wave of R/R run the tune and see what happens.

To anyone who may have been involved in the Bronco tune debate- does the ASE certified tech have to be CURRENTLY certified? I passed my ASEs back in 2004… and have been out of the industry since 2005. Needless to say, my creds are expired.
