They both checked order notes and said lariat fx4 is just constrained
What does this mean? I ordered a Lariat FX4 and didn't get an email about being scheduled yet... Should I call my dealer and ask about the running boards?

Of course I wasn't even going to get an FX4 but decided why not at the last minute...

I’m really not sure.. the argument can be made that my dealer is just not up to speed or not willing to find out for me and the ford rep I spoke too didn’t really know either.. but it’s hard to make a change like adding something I didn’t want just from a couple of forum posts saying so with no evidence. Don’t know what to believe but I’m willing to delay and just wait to hear more info. If it turns out you guys are right I’ll eat that and make a change then.

I’ve called my dealer and Ford directly and they both laughed at me and said nothing is showing running boards need to be added. They both checked order notes and said lariat fx4 is just constrained so I’m not sure what to believe. Does anyone have proof of this? Email screenshot or dealer report?
I’d prefer not to have running boards.

to me, the bolded part above is even more troubling than the yet unverified requirements for running boards on FX4. Last I saw reported there was only 3300 non-raptor orders in the banks total nationwide? I have no idea how many of those 3300 are FX4- but for sake of argument let's say 5o%? So 1650 FX4 and they already are constrained right out the chute at start of production? Typically, they do some quality and pilot runs early but then try to ramp up production as fast as possible. How in the world are they not able to provide a measly 1650 units at this point? I have been very sympathetic to the supply chain problems having worked in production, lines, Quality etc. over my career- but if true this is borderline incompetence so far downstream after economies re-opened and most of the procurement issues seem to be in the rear-view mirror now.

imo the "constraint" issues are even more unverified than the running board requirement. at least Ford has emailed multiple dealers about that and we've now got the bulletin text pasted. we've had some lariats on this forum be scheduled and despite my dealer calling me about the running boards, he had nothing to say about any further constraints.

if there are no significant constraints on standard bronco equipment, then the lariat will be fine. it's the same line and the same chips, they should have no problem getting 3,000 units out the door when the running board fiasco is remedied.

Forwarded the screenshot to my dealer. He was doubtful “it says nothing about that when we bring up your order” but added the running boards for me. I know Ford has tons of issues with vehicle ordering it’s just annoying they can’t simply communicate to customers and dealers properly. Thank you all for the help and info.

I’m just spitballing here, and since I’m ordering a Raptor I have no stake in the game, BUT I have a tenuous theory on this.

Could it be possible that the additional height of the FX4 puts it over some threshold that requires an assistive feature to be installed for accessibility? I’m not even necessarily talking about a government requirement.Auto manufacturers have teams of people just focused on ergonomics. Perhaps they looked at this and said “We thought this was gonna be okay without boards. But now we realize it doesn’t meet whatever standards for easy of entry. We don’t want lawsuits over people falling while getting into this tall truck”

Obviously that sounds lame but remember this truck needs to appeal to lots of ages and sizes of people so they can sell them.

Again, pure conjecture.

They must’ve had a stockpile of running boards due to the low amount of orders/ it’s a damn midsize and thought how can we get people to buy these? Hmm.. Let’s just say they won’t get built unless they have them! Problem solved Lol

To start Ford can offer the 2.7L that many of us are waiting for if they want the orders to increase.

They will when they have enough to do so. No point ordering something that they can't even supply/build currently...That is why it isn't available to order until Job 2.

Common sense: Order a Lariat FX4 with no accessories to avoid delays.
Reality: Lariat FX4 order delayed due to not ordering accessories.
A perfectly worded oxymoron! I'll give you a second "headslapper! Lol

Well I haven't talked with my dealer regarding the running board issue yet... I will email him tonight. Though if my truck is going to be seriously delayed then I'll just wait and get the 2.7
