...And got a full size Raptor!
I ordered a Ranger Raptor in May to switch from a company fleet Malibu to a reimbursement program. That company lease was set to expire in September. Fleet would not extend my lease any further so I ended up looking for other options since my Ranger Raptor was delayed until production week of 1/8.
I went online and found a killer deal on this 2022 F-150 Raptor in Rapid Red Metallic with the 801A and Moonroof/Tailgate package with only 7,000 miles:
I ended up going this route for a few reasons:
1. The larger bed in the full-size actually fits my entire hockey bag with sticks. The Ranger was going to make me play Tetrs with my equipment every Sunday
2. The additional features of the full-size like rear air, rear heated seats, under seat storage, power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, integrated work surface, cooled front seats, bed camera and others really won me over.
3. The back seat in the full-size has a 60/40 seat that folds all the way up with a collapsable storage box. This is great for me to carry my PPE to job sites. It also means I can put a car seat in and still have a large area for gear and luggage on road trips and access to the storage box. With the Ranger's full bench folding, it meant I only had a tiny floor area for fragile gear with a car seat installed
4. There's so much storage and organization. Cupholders and cubbies and pockets for days. I counted, there are 12 places to store drink bottles.
5. The fold down shifter with the fold out work surface gives me an option to fire up my laptop easily for work on the way to a call.
6. There's actually enough space to install a decent subwoofer. In the Ranger I only had the Stealthbox option with a tiny TW1. I'm putting in a Hertz 10" sub behind the seat and won't lose any storage or functionality.
7. The tailgate step means both my wife and I can access the bed. I'm not tiny but I'm not big either and getting into the bed of the Ranger on 33's was gonna be a chore
8. The full-size comes on 35's so that took about $4000 of aftermarket parts I don't have to buy
9. Between not having an ADM and this one being used, I end up eating less depreciation than a brand new Ranger Raptor.
10. I'm completely out of time with my company lease and I had to make a choice
11. Finally and post importantly, this is one of my dream cars. I don't know how many opportunities I'll get to own one of my dream cars in my life so I had to take it. It's not my favorite color and I would have rather had the 37 package but that just wasn't going to happen with my budget.
There are a few drawbacks. I got 14.5 MPG on the 8 hour drive back from picking it up. I can't use many parking garages. The full size also doesn't get Auto Park Assist as an option so driving something this large has been an education for me. But these are small prices to pay. Who knows, in a year it may get too annoying and I'll go back to my ORIGINAL original plan which was going to be an Explorer ST.
Either way, I'm sorry I'm going to have to be leaving this site. You all have been very fun to talk to and debate with. I feel like we all bonded over the shared trauma of riding out the strike together. I wish you all the best of luck with your new vehicles and I will be lurking here from time to time to see how your builds turn out! Thanks guys!
