The price of an OEM battery is
$229.95 🤷 what's a little more?
@Big D replied on this post and stated the problem isn't brand specific. So, given the fact that all new vehicles have a plethora of modules etc that will draw power when the engine is off it stands to reason.
Please let us know if the optima solves this problem long term. Ford has told us that the system is designed for AGM technology and an aftermarket battery won't solve the problem. Also remember that when charging/Maintaining the battery please connect the negative conductor to a body ground. NOT the negative post of the battery. If you don't follow this charging protocol then the computer won't recognize the state of charge properly.

I had the same problem with 2024 RR. All problems were wiped away with a new battery - just a few miles everyday keeps battery charged 90%+.
Before battery replacement, I could not get it 90%+ with 1 hour freeway ride.
AGM battery charges itself very fast, when everything is right with the battery. Mine shows 40-50A charging current right after engine startup.

It's possible some who have experienced failed batteries so early that the truck sat on the lot long enough to drain it. Once that happens to a lead composition battery there can be irreversible damage.

I could guess, that this was exactly the reason for battery failure with my RR.

All vehicles in the last few years monitor "Battery State of Charge". Its a Federal mandated thing which "supposedly" helps with fuel mileage. I keep battery maintainers on all my cars/trucks. Wire them up so the plug is easily reached in the grill. Pull it in the garage and plug it in.
In preparation for being away from home for a few weeks I plugged my Cayenne into a tender only to see it report the battery as less than 50% charged; in spite of a days worth of running errands with the car. It turns out the battery management system turns off the alternator when the battery reaches some magical point. I guess I need to keep an eye on the Ranger now.

Mine was born in mid Dec 2025. I bought it a couple months later. Never had probs up until recently for no reason as I drive regularly.... happening to my wife's as well. Coincidence? I smell a bug in Ford's mothership.

2 months is plenty of time to damage a battery if left unattended.

Scangauge?
Yep! Scan gauge 3, to be specific. There’s a lot of info exposed, but what caught my eye was that after scanning in the xgauge section for Ford’s I saw there are not 4 but 6 tire monitors exposed by the obd interface, so I’m looking forward to seeing if I can monitor either my spare or two trailer wheels along with my primary 4 wheels.

Maybe so, but not this time. I've bought many a vehicle in the last several decades, mostly Fords.
I had a 21' Powerboost F150 that the mothership bricked overnight with bad software.... They ended up replacing the module for 900 bux because they couldn't fix it and I got tired of being a test subject. Since then, I teach the techs there how to get through this crap. I invested in the software and the hardware. I've been an electronic digital tech most of my life. My only gripe it costs me money because the people that roll this crap out are clueless.

Software was changed. Possibly in FP....
Everyone having similar issues at the same time. If Ford wants to put a new battery in, fine. But I'm not caving to 'what could happen' in lieu of 'what is happening'... We shall see. Something has changed.... believe me.

The optima is a type of AGM battery, so no worries about incompatibility. Optima claims it has both cranking and deep cycle characteristics...and that has been my experience.

Using SG3 as well, at least for now.

I've had these drain problems with both my RR and my Explorer ST. There is so much stuff still running in the background even when parked. I also get the message on my connected app telling me to go for a drive to charge the battery. I have always had to keep them on trickle chargers. I wonder if a better battery would solve a lot of these issues?

On the 2024 XLT there is no switch to turn this off. The truck does this by itself.
It shuts down systems when the battery voltage drops.
This can happen if the truck sits, doors stay open, or accessories are used with the engine off.
Driving the truck for a while should recharge the battery.

I would also see if your dealership installed a LoJack or other vehicle theft system. These are wired right to the battery and are on all the time. I had the low power warning a couple months ago but have not seen it since. Tempted to swap for an Optima battery anyway.
