Oil filter from Walmart

I performed the first oil change on my 26 Ranger XLT. It was at about 700 miles and I ordered an oil filter from Walmart. I didn't realize it came from a third party seller until after I installed it. The box looked legitimate and showed the part number FL-2062-A.

The oil filter itself had black capped ends and I know the newer ones do not have this. I am not planning on removing it but was curious what everyone else's opinion was on this topic.

That part number is Motorcraft.

I had no idea, until looking up that part number, that any Ford Rangers used a canister oil filter.

I generally do not order “mission critical” parts from Amazon or Walmart or eBay… you just have no way of knowing if they are legitimate.

I went on Walmart.com as if I were ordering the part. If you ordered the Motorcraft part, it says "Sold and shipped by Walmart." Maybe they ran short and went to a third party to fulfill the order? I'm sure it is absolutely fine.

I never have to worry about stuff from Walmart....because I never order anything from Walmart. Oh there was a time I did, twice. They screwed it up both times.

Every time I Google a product Walmart pops up with the product. They must pay Google to squeeze them in on every search then if anyone orders from them they just middleman, or attempt to middleman anything they don't normally carry. What could go wrong?

It's for the 2.7. I don't know about the 2.3.

Yeah, the 2.3 is a screw on filter.

Yes the box was a motocraft box.

Yes I think that is how I ended up with the third party one.

I just pick up the motorcraft or mobil1 filter when I am getting dog food from Walmart. Works fine, no issues

I'm okay with Walmart as a brick and mortar but this was purchased online from of their 3rd party sellers. I didn't catch it right away because the oil I used was shipped and sold by Walmart.
