I've just been familiar with it from the many threads about its position and the 3rd party components to deal with it. My understanding was changing voltage resistance allowed rapid and accurate information and the technology was developed long ago

Interestingly I just discovered that there are aftermarket guards out there just to prevent this exact same thing from happening......looks like I'll be buying a set since I never want to go through this again.

The ball thingy snapped off the plastic arm, so not only is the ball part plastic but so is the arm that it broke off of.
I’m just scratching my head on HOW it broke. There’s not a mark on anything….its just broke. I wish I knew who to blame it on and how the F they did it.

Having done this install before, My guess is the installer didn't support the rear axle when they removed the rear coilover which allowed that corner to drop/overextend and the sensor snapped. if only one side was broken, i'd assume that was the first corner they did and they learned their lesson.... I don't think it broke during driving.

good insight! I am very curious to any and all that have the sensor cover if they have broken theirs or even heard of one breaking due to off-road driving… I don’t doubt the possibility, but the only evidence I have seen of a failure is the buckleup video driving it through a Florida swamp and it detached.. or am I thinking of a different sensor?

So I did the 2:1 spacer lift on my 2025 Ranger Raptor. I did the front myself and all came out fine. I was too busy with work to do the back so I paid someone to do it. I then got new 35" K03's mounted on Bronco Sasquatch wheels I picked up. All good so far.....I then went to set the new ride height VDM in FORScan. When I went to do this it showed some crazy settings for the rear (see photo) and threw a bunch of errors and now I have a service error on the dash. Long story short, I found the culprit. The right rear ride height sensor got broken somewhere between the guy I paid to do the rear spacers and Costco mounting the new wheels/tires. Not sure who to blame. So. I am stuck buying a new sensor (Pt# MB3Z5A967G) at a cost of $180. My anger at Ford stems from the fact that the FU*KING arm on the sensor is made out of PLASTIC!!!! WTF!?!?!?!?!?! This thing hangs pretty low on the truck and is susceptible to damage and being plastic sure doesn't help (see photo). I just got back from the Ranger Raptor Assault in Utah and even asked those guys "why the hell is this made out of plastic"? They simply said, "those Ford Engineers can be a little crazy"

What a nightmare.! Hopefully the part will be here by Friday and I can get back on the road with the VDM set and all working.

My front left ride height sensor was broken at delivery. Problem is I didn’t notice until I had 750 miles on it when I added a level kit. Very cheaply made but a premium price tag!

My bet would be Costco did it. Had tires mounted on my wife's car and specifically asked the guy up front if they use impacts and he said no. Came back later to pick it up and noticed it was missing 1 lugnut. Went in and asked why and they tried to say the lugnut was bad. I asked to see it and they dug it out of the trash and you could clearly see it was striped by an impact when they were taking it off. I went out and checked the others and 3 more were also damaged from impact.
Automotive manager told me to pound sand when I asked for replacements. So I spoke with store manager and not only did he replacement them he gave me 20.00 store credit. But the best part was he chewed the Automotive manager a new asshole right in front of me.
Wouldn't hurt to ask Costco to replace it.

Ranger Raptor ride height sensors measure the real-time position, movement speed, and travel distance of the suspension. Connected to the front control arms and rear trailing arms, they feed data to the Vehicle Dynamics Module to control the Fox Live Valve adaptive shocks, adjust headlights, and manage stability control.

How Ride Height Sensors Function

• • Track Suspension Position: Sensors measure the exact physical distance between the truck frame and the suspension arms at every corner.
  • Real-Time Data Feed: They send continuous voltage signals to the central computer about whether the wheels are traveling up or down.
  • Control Fox Live Valve Shocks: The computer uses this position data alongside steering, braking, and throttle inputs to instantly stiffen or soften shock damping (such as firming up when anticipating a jump or heavy braking).
  • Automatic Headlight Leveling: They tell the vehicle computer how the truck's pitch changes under load so the LED headlights can self-level and not blind oncoming traffic

The location of these suspension sensors is almost as idiotic as the trailer light/brake plugs.
First upgrade I did after buying mine & researching these things was the armor for the sensor.
Now I just need the confidence to cut into my plastic trim to relocate the trailer plugs.
