It appears OEM Ford oil filters are used, but are there any other options?
I want to install an oil drain valve. Ronin or something else?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Any drain valve will be fine, fumoto, amazon, ronin, all work fine. You can also use whichever filter brand you wish. I think the orange fram ones walmart sells are the least disearable to people but they do work.

Having just completed my 2nd oil change two days ago, I can tell you the Ronin drain plug along with a piece of 5/8" tubing to control the stream is the way to go.
I'm sticking with the OEM filter for now.

The newer drain plug (p/n ML3Z 6730 B) allows oil to drain without removing the plug.

I like this new design. Although I have the Ronin installed, I will grab one of these to try out.

Do they still replace the plastic drain plug at every oil change from the dealer?

Like the idea as the current plug is a mess waiting to happen.

How long have you used the new one and what has been your experience while changing oil?

Thx.

So my RR came with the short, old style plug. I was still able to control the oil drain by holding the plug over the pan drain. The new style plug was installed and I'll see how slick it works some time in May for the next oil change.

I just installed a Ronin plug last week, we’ll find out if it was worth it in 5K miles.

in regards to filters, I’m using the Fram Ultra Synthetic.

I installed the Ronin as well. My recommendation to anyone doing their first oil change on the 2.7 is to cover the floor underneath with cardboard or a tarp, if you care about the floor/driveway. If you have an appliance store near you they usually will give you a refrigerator box or two which make for fantastic driveway/garage floor protectors.

I don’t get it, if FRAM oil filters are so bad, there should be cars/trucks stuck on the side road and a bunch of law suits. That’s all I ever used on my 1st gen taco that lasted me 600k miles without any issues OCI 5K miles and that truck was still running great when I finally sold it after 17 yrs as the original owner.

UPR also makes a nice drain plug option, hasn’t given me an ounce of trouble. Similar to the Ronin - add a piece of 5/8” silicone tube to the center outlet, twist it open, and let it fly - zero mess!
IMO for the money run factory Motorcraft oil filters. For 35+ years I’ve always ran stock oil filters with no issues.
The true key is the oil - never skimp on the oil or ever run an oil outside of Ford’s designated requirement.

I've been changing my own oil since my first car in the late '60's and have used Fram more than any other. I've never had a problem and continue to use them to this day. Most people probably have a preference but Fram is certainly a good quality filter

Doing some research on 2.7 oil filters I found this info video over at BITOG. There is a plus and minus points in my mind regarding filter media and flow rate with cellulose, synthetic and mix blend but good info.
