Dealer is offering an extended warranty on my new RR. bumper to bumper 2900 for 6y/120K. It doesn't fire my engines, but wanted to ask for thoughts on whether this is worth it? I have very little experience buying new vehicles.

I do like the idea of an extended warranty. I'm wondering if there are other sources that are better, cheaper, etc?

I had never ever considered an extended warranty until I got my 24 RR.
1. New US vehicle
2. Lots of technology
3. Cam phasers

I purchased a 10 year/100,000 mile from Granger. Hopefully I look back and say that was a waste of money but maybe I won’t.

The dealership included a free lifetime power train warranty with my car. I believe it's through Zurich.

With all of the tech in new vehicles I would highly recommend the Ford extended warranty if you plan on keeping your truck past the OEM warranty period. Check with Grainger for a price before obligating with the selling dealer.

Agee, check with Granger. Top of the line Ford warranty with very little markup compared to other dealer sold warranties.

I paid $1470 for 7 years/100,000 miles with $200 deductible in March of 2024 on new Ranger Raptor through Flood Ford (same deal as Granger).

Most likely you've heard people say product extended warranty coverage, is just additional profit to sellers and manufacturers. Maybe if there are no claims during the period. What these warranties do is transfer some [financial] liability to someone else. Similar to insurance, right?

I'd rather not spend 1,000's of dollars on a repair for a problem that should never have occurred. For me, those funds are better spent on the next new vehicle.

My RR has been with me for a month and roughly 800 miles. It'll take a year for me to decide if I want an extended warranty to have some coverage beyond the 3yr/36k and 60k powertrain warranties.

Extended warranties are individual protection against the variability of financial losses due to repairs. Of course the manufacturer nets profit, just like an insurer, they have the law of large numbers on their side and you don't. They are a waste of money if you expect it to be an investment. They are not a waste of money if you value the peace of mind at the price offered. It also typically takes one minor repair to recoup the cost of an extended warranty. The bigger question is will you actually use the lifetime of it, or will trade your vehicle in anyway (as many do).

I buy or don't buy an extended warranty based upon the price of parts and complexity of the vehicle. I don't buy them if it's a well established NA engine with regular suspension, an infotainment screen that doesn't contain critical vehicle functions (e.g. must be replaced to use the vehicle), etc. I tend to buy them on anything FI. I've already profited $5K on a blown turbo at 40k miles on another vehicle. I personally have never lost money on an extended warranty, but I've also declined to buy them on about half the vehicles I've owned because I've evaluated them beforehand.

I added a service contract beyond warranty and dealer's lifetime on engine/drivetrain. Just so many computers that can go wrong.

If you decide to go with the extended warranty, you can absolutely negotiate the price with your dealer. I researched the Granger price ahead of time and had their pricing chart pulled up on my phone when I purchased my Ranger. I showed them the Granger pricing on my phone and he took it to the manager to see what they could do. They couldn't match the Granger price, but they did come down substantially. They offered a price that was close enough to Granger that I was okay with buying from the local dealer. They are the closest dealer for me and the one to be doing the service work, so I didn't want to burn any bridges.

I’m on my second Raptor product. I always buy the ford ESP premium care. Upgrade for the extra rental coverage. I use $100 deductible and go up to 125k miles just in case.
On my Gen 3 F150 Raptor it more than paid for itself. When I traded it in for my Ranger I still got money back which I applied to my Ranger.
I hope to never use it but after having my Gen 3 issues I’ll never miss out on buying the ford esp premium care from flood ford. Best prices I’ve seen.

Your OEM warranty on your new truck will be 3yr/36000 mile bumper to bumper. Power train is 5yr/60000 miles. So the question is do you want another 3yr bumper to bumper and 1 year power train warranty for $2,900. With this or any extended warranty what is the deductible for each claim. Also you MUST do all the suggested maintenance at the suggested intervals.
What I’ve always found interesting is just when your warranty runs out on a vehicle lots of work needs to be done. In short take your truck in for an oil change and the dealer or shop performs their free 28 point safety check. You pick up your vehicle and they point out the thousands of dollars in repairs that need to be done. If you don’t perform their suggested work will it affect your extended warranty for those parts. I don’t know, but I would ask. Example: took my Audi A7 in for an oil change at 60,000 miles without any warranty. Dealer said the hydraulic motor mounts were seeping oil and should be replaced. They wanted $4500 to do the work. Never did the work and never seen a drop of oil in my garage.
I never buy extended warranties and believe I’m money ahead for sure. Maybe when my OEM warranty is out I might. Good luck.

Extended warranties are always a scam that's why only boomers recommend them they like getting scammed
Tell that to the many 5G owners whose transmission blew up after 60K miles, or others that had to shell out $2500 for a new taillight assembly.
