Last April (2025) I traded in my 2013 Tacoma V6 for a 2025 Ranger 2.3 XLT. My Tacoma only had 86k on it, but it was rusting out badly underneath. It had been recalled for frame rust and the dealership only sprayed some white foamy crap into some of the holes in the frame rails. Things like fender brackets and disc guards were already falling off.
My Ranger 2.3 feels like it has twice the power of the Tacoma’s V6 engine, and my Ranger is getting 24-27 MPG, while my Tacoma averaged 17 over it’s lifetime.
It was funny that when I brought my new Ranger back to the dealership 1 week after purchasing it (for an inspection sticker), I saw my old Tacoma - already sold and registered to a new owner! I suspect that o e of the dealership employees grabbed it up right away.

The market for used Tacos and T4Rs is crazy. People are stupid.

I looked at Tacomas. Even considered a 22 r 23 used. Prefer my ranger on almost all fronts. Ford has been making reliable turbocharged engines for yrs. Tacoma had issues out of the gate. So much for reliability. Tacoma is much pricier for the truck I was looking for. The ranger rides better, more comfortable to me. Nicer looking truck. If the Tacoma was as reliable as my 14 Camry, reliability would be a real plus. I only have 900 mi

I guess once they covered up all the frame rust it was good to go? Either someone out in the wilds got taken by that dealer, or someone on staff knew exactly what they were getting and jumped on it.

I remember when Toyota Tacoma's were bullet proof, 40 years ago. I might have considered one this time around but with no flat tow capability and lack luster power and styling, I'll stick with my 2.7 Lariat.

Same here. Replaced a Toyota Tundra 5.7 with the 2.7 Ranger and can still tow my 6,000 lb camper without issue and have a much nicer daily driver

Bought my RR to replace my 1996 Tacoma SR5 4x4 5spd...I ended up keeping it. No rust issues on mine. Get offers to sell it all the time. We'll see how the RR is doing 29 years down the road, lol! Well actually any of todays newer trucks really.

Sold my 2015 Taco 4x4 Sport and tried utterly hard to fit myself into a new Tacoma. IMPOSSIBLE.

rear seat with new Tacomas is cramped and no longer folds flat. Rode my nephews Tacoma 2024 SR and frankly the rear seat angle was hurting my ass after 20 mins, and is smaller than 2nd and 3rd gen, too tight for normal humans.

And the design is quite exaggerated, too many creases, styles, bumps, folds, vents, and ugly plastic designs all around. Oh, and fabric seats WITH WHITE in a dirty truck when Ranger Wildtrak has leather at the same price point.

And the 4x4 Wildtrak has this THAT THE Equally priced TACOMA DOES NOT:
Leather Seats, Rear A/C, REAR DIFF LOCKER, OEM Electric sliding tonneau , 6 AUX switches, extra glove box, 2 more cupholders, exterior welcome lighting, bed plastic liner and a well placed screen with elegant interior. Oh and decent speakers and sound!

AND got a 5.5k discount, and the dealer agreed to include the Trailer Tow Hitch and ball, AND 3M Window Tint Film. They either want me as a spokesperson, or had too much Rangers to sell.

I don't think Toyota is worried too much with the Ranger or Colorado, but it has been VERY complacent. They still show the old car 90s plasticky style, doing "just enough" and made dozens of wrong choices to save money on places that there were value for the consumers.

Surely there is no risk of this landing on North American soil. This is what Australia and the rest of the world get instead of the Taco. It is no Taco, it is just a face-lifted HiLux on the old HiLux platform.
HiLux's are very popular in Aus. but they have been surpassed by the Ranger and will likely be swallowed by the Chinese utes as well.
This updated HiLux is not being well received by the Australian press.

The Australian "New Hilux" comparisons and reviews are not being too favorable for it. Even the reviewers have gawked at things like a stock carpet clad bedliner that looks out of place and forced, because they just didnt make a proper plastic or urea spreaded bedliner. Cheap carpet fixed with stick on velcros is all they got. On an open bed, nothing less.

In Australia too, there have been thousands of Toyotas stolen by CAN bus exploits, that have not been fixed for more that 2 years.

Apparently they have "fixed" that and are working on how to apply that fix to existing vehicles.
