When is your Ranger considered broken in?

Just curious as to anyone’s opinion……. When do you believe that your Ranger is “ broken in”?
I only have 4,400 miles on my XLT.

My 2025 Raptor has 15000 miles on it. And im just noticing in the last month that my mileage is improving. 19.6 mpg on the highway on last fillup. Might be truck might be me driving a little better now that the novelty has worn off a little.

Ford considers the engine break-in period to be 1,000 miles. I think that is a pretty fair assessment for letting the engine "get comfortable" so to speak. I'm just a few miles shy of 5,000 on my Ranger and it still feels brand new to me. My last new car was a 2022 Subaru and that still felt "new" to me until I hit about 15,000 miles (a little over one year of ownership). We'll see if I feel the same about the Ranger when that time comes.

As far as the initial break-in where you should treat it differently than one that’s fully broken-in, I went with the 1,000 mile number that Ford publishes. But with that said, I just did my 3rd oil change at about 7,500 miles and had a drain sample analyzed; silicone and other stuff has stabilized but some wear metals are still elevated and coming down so clearly some break-in is still happening. I think at least some of it is because I considered it broken in and have been using it hard, like towing a 5,000lb trailer and such.

I have to agree with this, I’ve had dozens of brand new cars and gas mileage usually begins improving at 15k and stops improving around 20k miles. This is what I consider to be “broken in”

My wife and I used to consider a vehicle broke in once we made love in it. She’s passed away, so I guess I’ll have to settle for the 1st scratch/dent for now.

When I owned my '21 XLT, I made a mistake and parked next to the cart coral at Sam's club. Sure enough I dinged the edge of my door. What did I do last week with my '26 Raptor? Yep, same f***ing thing. Dammit! Why did I park there? There will be NO third time.

We learned parking by those also. My wife's 2015 escape got the whole side scratched by some jackass trying to fit the cart between her car and the cart cage. From front to back all the way down the passenger side.

20K miles worth of Blackstone reports. I personally want a record in case of warranty issue(s).
Did the first three changes in first 5+K miles and wear metals came down significantly. Silicone followed on fourth, but wear metals have stabilized with 5K oil change intervals.
Been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w/30. Viscosity is a bit low, but TBN numbers are good.
Might look to change brands now the Pennzoil changed the formula as I would like to see viscosity numbers rise......anyone getting better viscosity numbers and with which brand? 2.7L
My opinion is the first two oil changes are the biggest thing to get most of the wear metals out.
Tranny, T case and dif's are coming in the next year. I try keep my rides for 200K miles.

I think I'll try NM Mike on his break in philosophy.
