Went to install a bed cover today and noticed the insulation this thread talks about. After reading, I've come to a few conclusions:
  1. I understand Ford may have made the decision to put it there to dampen sound or to protect against debris going into the vents. It does seem slightly louder with it gone, but barely noticeable.
  2. The fact that some models have it and others don't seems more telling to me (from reading other posts). Plus the above post from The Lone Ranger says that they did some digging and Ford confirmed it wasn't supposed to be there.
  3. The material itself is fibrous and porous in nature — and has nothing blocking it from rain or the elements. I bought a 2025 Ranger in 2026, so this truck has been sitting on the lot for months at least, and it was absolutely soaked. The adhesion at the top was already coming off, and the small plastic rivets at the bottom were easy to knock off.
In my personal opinion, I would remove this. Even if there is a one-way valve on the back, having a porous material like that open to the elements from above is a recipe for disaster over time. It won't last, it risks growing mold, and it prevents you from cleaning the space between the bed and the cab. Whether Ford intended for it to be there or not, this thread alone is evidence that it was an oversight not worth a recall. You're better off with it removed.

it seems like it will become dirty and start sanding down the paint allowing rust

Yeah, its on my list of low priority tasks right now. I live in Cali, so weather is pretty dry must of the time but it is a strange case of what to do. I hear both sides

I get both stances on this issue and well..the easier option is to let it be and deal with it, if it becomes a problem down the road. I have more important upgrades to do!

Yead, Oakland / East bay has some of the best weather. SF has too much fog, esp if you live near the beach. I lived there for 13 years

East bay gets just the right amount of sun, cold, rain, etc. Perfect climate. Politics, local gov is another story. We lost our sports teams but I digress.

I removed mine. Only my opinion, but I believe it is meant only for shipping/assembly purposes which is further supported by some dealers removing it during DPI. If it was meant for NVH, then Ford would have used a material that does not absorb/hold water like a sponge. My Ranger is a 2026 that was brought home on 4/20/2026 and it was already collecting organic litter.

100% NOT closed cell foam. Not foam of any kind. It is a synthetic fibrous felt and absolutely acts like a sponge. Something literally holding water against the metal of the truck is going to cause problems. As MULTIPLE dealers have stated, THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REMOVED before delivery.

I just pulled mine off after a trip through the car wash. Heavy and saturated with water. Photos are before and after stepping on it. It is absolutely absorbing and retaining water that cannot not be squeezed out while in place.

Leave this at your own peril. It has nothing to do with the cab vent since it doesn't even touch the cab vent and is attached to the bed not the cab.

How the heck did you guys get it out?
I slid a metal yardstick between the bed and the pad, resting it on top of each of the plastic "screws" and lightly hammered down with a small dead blow hammer. I figured it would break them, but it just popped each of them out of their hole. Then I used one of those flexible part pickup claw things and it lifted right out with little effort.

And AI (SI :)) says:

Ford part MB3B-E403F12-BA is an engineering or component part number for a "Spacer – Bed to Cab Alignment". [1]

What Does It Do?

This is a permanent, factory-installed component used primarily during the vehicle assembly process. According to Ford specifications, its main function is to maintain the correct gap and proper alignment between the truck cab and the truck bed (box), compensating for factory manufacturing tolerances. [1]

Vehicle Fitment

This part is standard on the next-generation Ford Ranger (P703 platform), including the Ranger Raptor, starting with the 2022+ international and 2024+ North American model years. It appears visually as a small block or item wedged in the gap between the cab and the truck bed. [1, 2]

Should It Be Removed?

No, it is not intended to be removed. [1]
  • It is a permanent factory fixture.
  • Truck owners on communities like the Ranger6G Forum note that removing this piece can result in noticeable negative side effects, including increased wind noise and a distinct chatter or vibration radiating from the rear cab area during driving.

I trust the dealer and manufacturer over AI that is just pulling from comments on this site. If enough people said it was made of baby seals, AI would say it was made of baby seals. There are very vocal members claiming it's a necessary part, but multiple dealers and Ford claim it is not. I have read all of the threads on this and I found exactly one person who claimed there was any negative effect, and they claimed it was minor. Definitely not anyone claiming "noticeable negative side effects". Like others have said, do or don't remove it, but I'll go with the answers from dealers and from Ford. Especially when dealers have removed them for people for free because they know it's not a part of the truck.

Yeah, I think I'll remove mine as well. Just does not make any sense to keep something like that. Especially since rainy season is upon us..
