Could you supply some more info? What is your payload and what all will be in the truck when you travel? Does the quoted 520 lbs of tongue weight listed include things mounted on the tongue like propane or batteries? I see they show the GVWR at 5,200 lbs, so it looks like they figured the 520 lbs TW at 10% of 5,200 which may be a little light, most towing recommendations are for 13%. But if you stay at 4,000 like you say 13% of that is 520. The difference between 10% and 13% can mean sway or no sway. (In other countries they use lesser tongue weights because they are limited to slower towing speeds than we are, so with only a 10% TW you'd probably want to drive slower).

It can add up quick though by the time you add in all your camping gear, your water and your toys. Most people don't realize how fast all that stuff adds up.

I always recommend that people weigh their truck at the CAT scales before buying a trailer just to see how much actual payload they have. Then subtract the weight of the people, pets, fuel and gear that will be in the truck for a trip and that's how much you have left for your TW. If you get the CAT app you don't even need to go inside the building.

I would suggest that you go with 13% of 5,200 which is going to give you a TW of 676 lbs. Especially if you plan to put any motorized toys back there.
(You might also be bumping pretty close to that 5,500 lb Raptor towing limit)
Thank you for the detailed response, I suppose I do not have all the information yet. Currently I'm going off of what they post on their website, so the estimated tongue weight range I believe would be empty vs full but I need to verify. It does have the optional front kitchen and of course you mention propane/batteries usually up front which will add quite a bit of heft.
I would guarantee a payload from myself and gear of at least 750 lbs. I may consider looking at lesser tongue weights in the 200-300 range just to be safe.
Thank you very much!

No problem, since my truck isn't built yet I've had a lot of time and have looked at a lot of small trailer websites. I actually have 20 sites bookmarked in Chrome but I can't figure out how to share them.

So you’re saying add a rear sway bar to the truck?
yes sir. sorry, i didn't understand what you were asking.

i added a rear (anti) sway bar and it made the truck more solid and steady feeling on the highway and around town. its super windy where i live and that bar smoothed out the rocking on the highway but a rear sway bar used to be present on tons of vehicles, not so much anymore. they help towing. i always used to tow and up until this ranger, still towed vehicles across the country on flat trailers with my nissan titan. it had a rear sway bar and that truck was rock solid on the highway, even passing semi trucks

My work was giving away some shelving and some Vidmar industrial cabinets, so the car trailer became a utility trailer.

Nice setup. I’m pulling a 17' aluminum boat that’s about 1,800–2,000 lb wet, and the Ranger does great as long as I keep ~10–12% tongue weight and the trailer level (flip the hitch as needed). I run Tow/Haul and will drop it into M to hold 7th/8th on grades so it’s not hunting, and keep the speed around 60–65. For dirt/washboard I air the truck down to ~30 psi and the trailer to ~22–25, leave it in 4A/4H, and watch hitch clearance—then air back up before pavement. If you haven’t already, hit a CAT scale loaded to verify tongue weight and give the trailer lugs/hitch bolts a re-torque after your first few rough trips.

I tow my track car in an Aerovault enclosed trailer. Total weight is 5,500 lbs. As the name implies, the trailer is very aerodynamic and doesn't get buffed about. Recently towed from Atlanta to Bowling Green. About 650 miles round trip with several grades of between 6-9%. 2025 2.3l 2WD. Truck did great. That little turbo 4 has plenty of torque. Much better than my previous 2018 Canyon with a 3.6 NA V6. Typically pull 5-10 over the speed limit and still got 15 mpg taking the scenic back roads. Tow/haul mode with this transmission is the best!

Towing a 22 feet, 3700lbs dry travel trailer. Probably somewhere between 4000 and 4500 loaded. 340lbs hitch weight (dry). Reese weight distribution hitch. I have a 1" lift up front from Fordrangerlifts, but in reality it's more like a 1/2 - 3/4 lift. Kinda surprised that it doesnt squat much. Standard FX4 suspension.

My very first experience towing a big trailer like this. I cannot compare with other travel trailers, but definitely feel the weight behind me. I would not like towing anything bigger or going faster than 100km/h with this.

Looks like you got it pretty darn close to level and set correctly(hard to tell really on the unleveled ground), safe travels and enjoy.

Do you have the 2.3L or the 2.7L? The 2.7L seems to not really struggle even in the mountains (TN Smokeys) while towing.
