I had a few 2022 F150’s. I’m also the one that upgraded my lariat mid to a lariat high if you remember that a few years ago. I haven’t had an F150 since December of 24 thoufh

I might have had a early version but these were the changes that were made. These were probably done for durability instead of performance gains.

That's crazy to me. There have been several recalls for different vehicles that require the PCM software to be updated. So if a PCM update gets released to address a problem, whoever bought one of these tuners now owns a ProCal paperweight?
I'm not calling you out.....I believe this is the case. I just don't see how this will be sustainable long term.

You probably just reload your cal from the tuner device.
BTW, I read somewhere that updates, if any, are updates to the tuner device itself, not to the tune cal data.

Right, but by reloading the tune, you are literally rolling back the PCM to the older strategy/calibration that does not include whatever fix would be included in the newer PCM firmware.
It isn't a problem until it's a problem, but it is just a matter of time before some vehicles in Ford's line up requires the PCM to be updated and this will be an issue. ProCal users will just have to cross that bridge when they get to it.

Any updates that are done over the air are for sub-systems only, they do not update the PCM calibration that way, it is only done via the OBDII port because it affects critical drivability functions that could also cause safety issues even if your battery didn't go dead during the reprogramming process, also it often requires manual interventions like cycling the ignition / power. That's just not something that is done remotely.
Plus, even if they could, they would risk bricking an ECU if someone's battery goes dead while the PCM update was being done because it wasn't on a tender and maybe sat in their garage for a month. They can only look at the battery voltage, once there's a load on it, a battery with low charge would hold voltage for a short period of time before going dead mid-flash.
IF there is an update to the calibration itself, you would need to update the programmer, load the new cal from their server, then flash the truck. There are quite a few ancillary processors on the vehicle that control a variety of subsystems, like the brake controller, which communicates with the PCM via CAN bus (differential pair), that can be updated via bootloader over the air.
I still gotta take mine in for the stupid Trailor brake controller fault I get randomly and have since I bought the truck, also the side curtain airbag recall, just waiting for them to screw up a bunch of other peoples Rangers first so when they do mine, they do a good job

That's a good explanation. Maybe I will turn my OTA updates back on. As for recalls...I haven't taken my truck in for any yet. My trust level of other folks touching my vehicles is very low.

For me,
I loaded the stock tune back to the truck.
Then updated the tuner.
It wiped the FP tune from the programmer.
I went back to my FP account and reloaded the updated FP tune back to the programmer.
My account had no credits used and 1 available. The certificate I used the first time was still in there and I didn't have to re-Input it.

The PCM is 100% updateable via the OTA process and will 100% wipe the tune. I know because it has happaned to me and countless others.
The OTA process uses a algorithm to check the 12v battery SoC, capacity, voltage other factors before attempting to install it. If the 12v battery is not up to spec, the GWM will not allow the OTA to even attempt the write process.

I 100% agree with this, but this is my concern to begin with. If Ford Performance says they have no plans of ever updating the tune, how is anyone with one of these tunes going to be able to do this?

This is with a Ford Performance tune or a a third party tuner?
The name looks familiar. I just found our convo on the F150 forum. You had the IPC that wouldn't update and you had to push via CAN. Fun times! I had to do that to my F150......twice. 12 hours of my life I will never get back.
