Its just Orielly Auto Parts house brand but they are solid filters and it was for the 24 Ecoboost Mustang
so microguard and they appear to be the same size as the fl-2127

Oh it is microguard lol. My bad been saying it wrong the whole time haha. Maybe they are i honestly haven’t seen a 2127 i just paid attention to the thread pitch. I just asked the guy at the counter for a 24 Ecoboost filter and they didn’t have the 2127 in stock but had the microguard and i knew immediately the threads were bigger than what was on the filter i bought that was a 910 equivalent from Fram.

my 2025 2.3 is going to be just over 900 miles and going to change oil later this week. to me just by looking, it looks most accessible by getting a small foot stool and leaning over by reaching your hand/arm down and breaking it lose there. may as well take it off that way too. i may go underneath and check it out from the bottom to see if it looks any better but we'll see. going to be running the Mobil 1 M1-102A filter with Pennzoil Ultra Plat.

also, still seeing conflicting info on the oil capacity. the online manual shows 6qts and the pdf version is showing 5.6qts. both show "including the oil filter" as well. glad they could make this clear as mud lol.

Just did my first oil change on 2.3 2024 ranger. Hopefully next time will go smoother. Turned the wheel all the way left and removed wheel liner . Used a long extension on a cup type filter wrench. Discovered you don't have to remove the front skid plate, just loosen the 2 back screws and remove the second skid plate. Thought I followed the drain path for the filter but was off by over a foot so I got a nice oil puddle on my garage floor. Hopefully I learned something and number 2 will be quicker and cleaner.

you can reach the 24 model 2.3 filter from underneath if you reach between the sway bar and cross member. my first oil change, i did from the top, like you are raying @mtremmel , and the one i just did, i did from underneath. both ways work fine but i need a small step ladder to reach in from the top so its easier to just drive up on the ramps and do the stuff from the bottom.

yes, just remove the second aero shield from the bottom to access the drain plug

Update for me. I just changed oil for the first time in mine. I was looking underneath and I can def get my hand on it from there but I don't have the greatest leverage, at least to break the super tight factory filter off. I got a small foot stool and leaned over the fender and I could reach down with both hands and break the factory filter loose. I also took it out that way. Cleaned out the little oil canal thing with some shop towels. Found out the Mobil 1 M1-102A DOES NOT FIT even though their site says it does. Smaller thread. I had to go to my local parts store and get the factory Motorcraft FL2127 and that one fit just fine.

I ended up leaving off that plastic shield underneath as well that goes under the oil pan. I feel like it's totally not needed and it'll save time for next time. Went pretty smooth otherwise and I'll be much quicker next time.

From underneath the vehicle it's not too difficult to remove with an oil filter removal tool. Oil filters will tighten up after they're installed and using a removal tool makes it much easier. The 3/4" threads filters are no longer compatible with the new 2.3 ecoboost, 22MM threads are required now, most websites are still showing the wrong filter because they haven't updated their system, I've contacted Wix, Purolator, Fram and a few others, they were not aware of the changes but are now working on getting their systems updated. Other new models equipped with the 2.3L show the correct updated part number. In my opinion, this is happening due to the lack of information about this new engine.

yea i posted a thread on the filter issue and its been discussed in a few other threads that the manual and some companies hadn’t updated as the engine change wasn’t known. Ford now just updated their online manual from what ive seen. The threads are now M22-1.5. I asked for an 24Ecoboost Mustang filter when the fram filter i bought didn’t work.

Agree with the FL2127 and 6 Qt of 5w-30 oil for the '25 2.3L engine, as I just finished the first oil change.

DO NOT TRUST most online auto parts places as they are still referencing the old engine filter. I know, as my Purolator Boss PBL10241 doesn't come close to fitting, yet that's what AAP shows as the correct filter.

I took the factory filter down to local Ford dealer and we verified 2127 is a cross reference match to factory black filter, the 2025 Ranger parts guide, and also to the 2024 Mustang 2.3L filter. Worked like a charm.

Also, I found the filter easiest access from the top, leaning over fender. There is a plastic drain guide under the filter to catch oil as you unscrew it so make sure your drain pan is set correctly. Note: do what is easiest for you.

I just finished the first oil change and about 5..5 quarts came out so im going with the 5.6 thats in the manual as the correct amount

https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/threads/2025-2-3l-fx4-oil-change.20682/

look at this picture below in poured the oil back into the container on the left.

the middle container is new in opened and the one on the right has the extra 0.5 qts missing

i figure it is easy to add 1/2 a quart if I am wrong

also while I think you can come up from the bottom from the rear, don’t see how you can go straight up from the bottom

i too got out a step stool and came from the top and that was very easy.

now that the filter is white it will be a lot easier to see and change.

and the factory fomoco filter is the same size as motorcraft fl-2127 so you can use the same filter wrench
