Pennzoil meets ILSAC GF-7A. Anyone using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, I do, it meets the new Ford standard, WSS-M2C971-A1. They haven't updated their website, but their spec sheet states it.

Yup. Just switched at 2500 miles to Ultra Platinum. Will do one more change at 5000 then 5000 from there on until she dies.

I wonder if anyone has successfully made a claim on the Pennzoil lifetime warranty….

Thanks for this straight up post with only facts. Good guide similar to the one on Bronco forum and updated for the new Ford specs.

Big fan of Mobil1 AFE 0W30 as a canadian.

Mobil1 ESP 0W30 is my go to for my MK8R

Question, I have some Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 laying around (not Ultra). Would you use it for 3 months summer approx ? Not sure it's listed

Amsoil Signature series meets Ford WSS-M2C961-A1

https://amsoilcontent.com/ams/lit/databulletins/g2880.pdf

Read this part carefully: "Use AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil in applications THAT REQUIRE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SPECICATIONS"
Nowhere does it say it actually meets Ford specification WSS-M2C961-A1. The reason for that is that it hasn't been tested and certified to meet it.
They make a good product but independent lab testing is not the same as being certified to meet a manufacture's specifications.
I switched from Amsoil SS to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum several years ago. It's easier to find and it meets the manufacture's specifications. The latter being an important consideration to keep in mind while in the warranty period.

Amsoil isn’t gonna be what grenades your engine. Assuming you followed a reasonable OCI, I’m not sure how any decent motor oil would kill an engine within the powertrain warranty period.

GF-6 was a BIG deal back in 2020 especially for TDI engines, not so much for NA engines where the previous GF-5 spec was tailored towards. That may be one reason why Ford had some issues with earlier generations of Ecoboost V6 engines, particularly the gen 1's had timing chain wear issues along with some cam phasor issues.

Valvoline™ is GF-7 ready - Valvoline™ Global

GF-7A is more of a "refinement" on GF-6 rather than a massive jump, but it is an improvement none-the-less, I think the cold cranking viscosity improvement and LSPI improvement are probably the most notable real-world advantages. GF-6 does pretty good with timing chain wear over GF-5, so it's only slightly better in that area.

The new GF-7A addresses LSPI on aged oils where the older GF-6 was only on fresh oils, so that's a big improvement along with the substantial reduction in cold cranking viscosity.
Great info, adding to the original post

@YukonRanger, 6812414b-1a33-4430-b074-315be232e6ed.pdf Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. 8accbd2a-2549-4b0e-8d55-ccd896cdbb62.pdf Pennzoil Platinum.

Probably Pennzoil across the board for the 5w30, but I'm stopping at 2 sources. 🙂
Added to original post

FWIW, there is apparently a reformulated Signature Series coming out next month, and it will apparently meat GF-7A standards. So if anyone was planning on ordering SS anytime soon, you might wait 30 days.
Good to know but GF-6A is certified for the ecoboost too. Might be able to get the older version on sale and save some $$$
