Extended Warranty

Has anyone gotten or researched an extended warranty? Either from Ford or some other carrier?

When I had my Maverick a lot of people were buying from Granger Ford because they were selling the Ford warranty slightly over cost. I also live in Florida which was causing an issue not purchasing from your dealer.

Like to know your thoughts.

I'm utilizing Geico MBI (mechanical breakdown insurance). It works like an extended warranty, and is pretty cheap - about $8/mo, but of course won't kick in until after my 3/36k is up.

If you need/want a warranty, definitely go with Granger or another discount dealer if no one nearby will match it. There are ways around the state issue and once purchased it is tied to your VIN, so it doesn't matter where you reside or move to.

I purchased it from Granger, they were the cheapest at the time. It's the same extended factory warranty as any dealer sells and is honored at all Ford Dealerships.

I've never heard an issue about FL dealers not honoring the warranty, can you elaborate?

FYI, the reason it's so much cheaper at Granger Ford (and a few others) is they are selling huge quantities of warranties with very little markup - this is a huge profit center for dealers at closing, which is why they push hard to get you to buy one when you are in the finance office.

I think Florida and California have laws in place that makes purchasing a warranty from out of state illegal/invalid. So Granger can't sell them in those states

Yep, just did a Google search on this, you are right, here's what I found (see below). I also checked the Granger Warranty site, and they don't sell if you live in FL.

It is not illegal to purchase an extended warranty (officially called a Vehicle Service Contract) for your car in Florida. However, state regulations strictly control who can sell them and how they are priced.
These specific Florida laws impact your purchase:

If you know a relative / friend in another state, then you may have a work-around.
Once the warranty is purchased, you're golden. Granger just can't sell a warranty to you in certain states. So you need to provide a valid address in a valid state.

This worked for me on a Toyota warranty, so I am assumed it could be done with a Ford/Granger.

The markups from local dealers is BS.

People have mentioned on other forums that they bought a vehicle for their kid in college (out of state) and bought the extended warranty. Something happened and the kid couldn't use the car. No parking space I think and they brought the car to Florida and the warranty was fine.

Personally I don’t buy extended warranties. Over the last 12 or so years I have bought 6 new vehicles and purchased one extended warranty. That one car we never used the warranty on. One truck that I had a 2014 F150 Lariat FX4 I had a 140,000 miles on it and I only replaced the starter and water pump in it. The other vehicles never had any issues. When I bought my 2026 RR I told the finance guy that at about $4000.00 a vehicle for an extended warranty times 5 vehicles was $20,000. I had saved and it would have to be something catastrophic to cost more than that for repairs . If I was buying a used vehicle I might have second thoughts about an extended warranty, but not buying new. Just how I look at it.

$4000?!! That must be the dealer price, or Raptor price.
I paid $2295 for an 8yr 125K mile from Granger on my 24 XLT FX4

I never considered an extended warranty for my 2014 f150 and it ran for 12 years with zero issues, except tires and brakes. I sold it last October to help fund the purchase of this Ranger.

I just have a feeling that this 2025 Ranger that I bought in October is going to be a problem child once the warranty runs out. Too much technology to go belly up and that stuff is going to be expensive to repair. I am currently looking for an extended warranty. I figure I'll probably keep the truck for maybe 5 or 6 years, if I keep it.

Edit: I went ahead and purchased an extended warranty from Ziegler Ford here in Michigan. I don't even put 5K miles on my truck a year, never have and I'm retired now so it'll be even less. So I went with an 8-year / 48k PremiumCare warranty with the lighting add-on and it was under $1k.

Ford wanted $2700 for the same one.
