Like or Dislike Adaptive Cruise Control?

Just wondering what other people thought about, (ACC) Adaptive Cruise Control

I don't like Adaptive Cruise Control. Twice driving down to TN cruising at 70mph some idiot would pull in front of me at a close distance and ACC would jam on the brakes, I tighten the distance and it still happened.

Or if you're coming up on a slow moving car it will throw the anchor out right about the time you're sliding over into the left lane to pass.

A vehicle should only do what I tell it to do, when I tell it to do it.

I rarely use it. The part I dislike is Ford continues to cheap out on how it senses if your hands are on the steering wheel. They rely on torque sensing of you turning the wheel left/right instead of pressure on the wheel itself.

I find it very handy on long interstate drives. Hard to drive with manual cruise after getting used to adaptive.

I believe if you turn lane centering and assist off, you can use ACC without the warning

I agree it’s a PITA - they just don’t want people acting like it Tesla FSD.

I think it’s fantastic. Sure, there are edge cases like the OP mentioned where it might not do what you want, but if you think about it, it’s doing the right thing. In the two cases OP outlined: one where someone gets in front at an unsafe distance, and the second where OP drove to an unsafe distance behind someone, the right thing for the vehicle to do is to brake, NOT assume the driver is going to swerve or whatever. If you’re regularly driving within those margins then clearly the tool isn’t for you. For the rest of us, it works well and really reduces fatigue on long trips.

I do not like ACC and do not use it. I've gotten used to lane centering and do use it. On my road trip it really helped.

But I would point out that using the normal cruise the truck will balk for just a half second when someone cuts too close in front of me.
The normal cruise is great! I like the way it helps hold your speed downhill in normal drive mode. No vehicle I've owned did this except my Ford trucks in Tow mode. I don't like how aggressive the tow mode downshifts though.

This is the first vehicle I've had with adaptive cruise, and I've learned to like it. Once in a while, it will slow down too much when someone moves in front or slows to turn, but that's usually in cases where I can predict that it's going to do that.

It's really nice when you're driving in a caravan and following someone. Just set it to a speed higher than you know the person in front will go, and let it do the work. Don't forget you can change the number of car lengths it'll maintain between you and the car in front.

When using ACC, and in traffic, I often keep my foot in it when I see someone cutting in front of me and are of no consequence, anticipating the auto braking. The ACC seems to take some stress off when driving in most freeway/turnpike situations, IF, I can keep my mind out of race mode... LOL

This my first vehicle with it and so far with the few occasions that I have used it I have been impressed. I'm sure Ill find some corner cases that I might not like how it reacts, but will figure this out in time.

I think it beats regular cruise control. If someone pulls out in front of you or you come up one someone in front you have to slow down anyway.

if the cruise control is always slowing you down it’s probably not the time to use cruise control anyway.

It was the one feature I wanted after experiencing ACC with a rental. I love it. It helps me be even more safe while driving and most importantly on long distance drives. I can take my eyes off the road for a quick second, while it keeps my truck centered in the lane.
