My guess is they wouldn't have a problem with someone updating it unless they brick their truck.

That was my thought. It seems to me you either get a dealer that's stand-off-ish and blames everything on you as much as humanly possible or you get a dealer that's customer friendly and genuinely ties to solve the issue without pointing fingers unless you do something really stupid that is obviously a customer fault (i.e., you overtighten an oil filter causing seal failure or dont put enough oil in or use out of spec oil etc.).

I plugged in my Procal tuner to see if any updates were available and there was a version update available for download. I think this is an update for the tuner itself and not the performance tune. I don't keep my Procal installed/connected to the truck, so I don't know if it adds a GUI update or new features.

Has anyone else installed this version update and if so, what were the changes/differences?

I'll plug mine in and check it out. I bet you're right though, probably for the tuner itself. Since it also reads/clears codes it could have something to do with that as well.

As others have stated, yes, you should be checking for updates. I didn't trust my dealer to do it after no one there had done it and said they would need a few days. Took me less than 45 minutes.

My mechanic put the ProCal in his name & password. If the ProCal is not registered in your name, is it in the dealers name & password or the mechanics? Do you reall know? If the dealer will give you the email and password it is registered under at the Ford Performance site then your probably ok.
On the Ford Performance site it clearly states to register the ProCal in the owners name. I went back to the dealer and told them I want it in my name. They are now trying to do that. FP gave a new voucher number and when I try to register the ProCal in my name, FP site says the new voucher is registered to another email. I’ve told the dealer either make it so I can register the ProCal to my account or give me a new ProCal. The mechanic should ask you for your username (which is your email) and password. They then do the install. Then you can log in and change your password. Then you can log into FP, plug your ProScan into your PC and allow the update.
You should hook up a battery charger before you start an install, if not and voltage drops below around 11.8 (I think, not exactly sure) it will mess up the install. With ignition off plug ProCal into OBD. Then turn ignition on and engine off.
I’m not sure if the update will automatically transfer into the tune on the truck. You might need to go back to stock then reinstall the tune. Very easy to do.
Lion77 is correct in saying you want the Procal in your account. Not only for these firmware updates, but for other reasons also. If you change certain parameters in ForScan, simple as tire size, you may also need change it in ProScan or the 2 softwares will conflict and who know what will happen. But it won’t be good. I don’t know which ones may or may not need to be changed. beyond My pay grade. Bottom line is Ford has yet been able to change my ProCal into my name. Instruction clearly state to register the voucher number to the end user. The dealer did not follow the instructions so they may have to supply a new ProCal if they cant get it done. They worked on it with FP for 5 hours yesterday, and they want to have a little more time today. On another note you can leave your ProCal plugged into the OBD All the time. There are 6 different gages you can choose to monitor while driving. Just make sure the vehicle is turned off when plugging or unplugging the ProCal, this is important. I learned all this yesterday while I was with mechanic trying to figure this all out.
Cheers!!!

I see lots of reasons to do the install yourself and have an ASE push the last "button" that actually "installs" the tune. In addition to the ridiculous charges by dealers I wanted my own Ford Performance account. I paid $6 to get the tune installed on my '19 Lariat at the oil chance site owned by the dealer and $50 to an ASE master to get it on my RR.

I got this today from Ford on any updates to the tune.

"At this time, Ford Performance has not officially announced any new updates to the ProCal 4 tune specifically for the 2024 Ranger Raptor since its initial release. However, the ProCal 4 calibration tool is capable of receiving updates via PC connection, and it's always a good idea to check periodically using the ProCal software to ensure you're running the latest version.

If any updates are released in the future, they would likely be communicated through official Ford Performance channels or available through the same software you used to install the tune."

You can sign up for performance updates on the Ford site. And it looks like you need to connect the tool to your computer to check for updates as opposed to connecting to your truck. Another reason to do the install as I did and have your own Ford Performance account as opposed to have to have the dealer check. I could be mistaken but don't think you can connect to Ford site where the tunes reside without connecting the tool to a/your computer.

You’re not mistaken about needing a Ford Performance account to update a ProCal. You also must have downloaded the ProCal software on your computer. You’re also correct in making sure it’s registered in your name in your Ford performance account , with your password. The mechanic that installed mine used his FP account with his password. FP sent a new voucher number that should have allowed my ProCal to be registered into my FP account. Nobody at the dealership or at FP could figure get the ProCal to accept the new voucher number. Now It doesnā€˜t seem to even operate properly. Ford is sending a completely new ProCal. There are many reasons for demanding to have it in the users rather than the mechanics. I hope all you others can get it in your name. If they try and say no, push back with the fact that they did not follow the directions that clearly state the dealer needs to install the ProCal in the end users FP account. Good luck and cheers.

For what it's worth, called FP tech support some months ago with the tune update question
...rep stated updates are UI firmware related only.
Actual tune highly unlikely to change unless a significant/catastrophic issue surfaces. Performance
Tune changes are too costly for extensive testing required, particularly for CARB approval.

Does that mean that the 2025 Procal tune will probably work on a 2026 Raptor? I ordered a second RR and two ProCal and I don't think I will get a 2025. How do I contact FP tech to verify?

My ford dealer has mine and is trying to put it in my name and email now. I didnt have the heart to tell them it wasnt going to work so i am letting them play with it for a while. The mechanic told me he never registered mine, he just hooked it up and downloaded it so i dont know who its registered to but they can play with it for a while

I don’t think the mechanic is being above board with you. Maybe there is a way to load the tune onto the ProCal tool without registering everything exactly as instructed. Everything says it’s important to follow the instructions. Did the mechanic give you everything that came with the tool. If he didn’t register the ProCal take a laptop (has to be a laptop) and ask him to show you how to register your ProCal.

The Ford mechanic is coming to my shop in about 45 minutes to put a new ProCal tune on my truck. I’ll ask him how to put a tune on without registering it. You can also call FP at the number on the attached letter. With your Vin they can tell you who the ProCal is registered too.
