I’m shopping around for a truck bed cover and I finally landed on the BAK Revolver X4S. But then I noticed that Ford has a new one that is similar, the Ranger 2026 Hard Rolling Truck Bed Cover by Real Truck Advantage for 5ft Bed
SKU: VS1WZ99501A42X. I’m intrigued because it looks very similar and is slightly less expensive and has the Ford badging on it. I’m torn on which I should get. On the one hand the BAK is proven to be reliable and durable, but on the other I like the idea of having OEM accessories, especially if they’re reasonably priced. Any wise opinions would be much appreciated.

Ford doesn't make bed covers. They ask a manufacturer to stamp a Ford logo on it and mark it up.

That being said, I'm quite happy with this one that I picked up for $500 on sale.

As with my comment about Ford asking companies to stamp the Ford logo on "their" covers, this one is also manufactured by one company and sold under multiple brands. Something like this would easily cost 2X as much from a "reputable" brand.

I’m extremely happy with my $400 trifold (mostplus or something like that). All depends on what you’re keeping back there and if you would rather chase dryness or easy on/off..

I don’t like the Trifolds at all. I like the hard roll up ones. I’m just not trusting of eBay though. I’ve been burned one too many times.

That's the first one I ordered. It was too narrow and a bit too long, with the rear clamp bolts a bit too short. Made me believe it was for the previous gen. Very well built though.

Then I would trust a brand that makes only/primarily hard rolling tonneau covers, I personally don’t think just because ford stamped it, it fits better. But at the end of the day, buy what you can stand to look at everyday, and works the way it’s supposed to every single time. Good luck! Please post updates when you make your decision!

Yeah, that makes sense. I’m more than likely going with the BAK. I’m just surprised the Ford one looked very similar.

Yea I have to admit it’s slipped off when I had it just resting there and climbing into the truck more than once haha. And you’re right about the rear bolt length, it could be 10-20mm longer and still work fine. But I have gotten used to it, and I really like that it doesn’t block the back window when folded. It’s definitely a personal preference more than anything.

The Leer HF650M is probably the best one on the market for the Ranger right now.

Leer was running a special selling it for $750 with free shipping. I highly recommend that over the others hard folding covers that require drain tube drilling and dont form a good seal and what not.

The biggest problem with the Ranger itself is the side walls, the top of the bed, or whatever you call them are full of holes everywhere, the stake pockets, and the front of the bed, and the tailgate.... its just a bad design for sealing with a cover.

There are multiple writeups of users who corrected the leakiness but it is definitely an ordeal to do so.

I'm very happy with my ebay $269 Mostplus. It is convenient to use, take off an on, and it does not leak, not a drop. (After I waterproofed the bed rails and all the other holes and made my own tailgate seal system...) It seals to the bed and tailgate nicely. I can still get a dozen drops in torrential rain or a pressure wash, but that's it, and that comes out of the rails, not the tonneau. I bought it for a cross country road trip, thinking it was cheap enough to consider it a throwaway, but it's been great for 10k miles and 6 months now. My biggest complaint is they got the logo crooked....

I've had rollups and I don't like them. Dust and dirt tend to make them stick, they take up valuable bed space, they aren't easy to remove when needed, and I've never seen one that seals well.

I liked my soft, tri-fold, amazon special enough that I still have it in the garage, ready to reinstall if needed. But, despite its flaws that I'm working on, I really quite like my canopy. It's really handy for my needs, much more than the tonneau.

I have the Worksport Nexus on mine. No need for drainage tubes. In NEPA with all the heavy rain over past couple weeks, not a drop of water inside. Couldn’t be happier, not to mention it locks vertical only losing about 6” of the bed and any side of truck opens the cover.

Stay away from bak. I’m doing my second warranty claim on an x4ts. Pull down cable brackets break and it leaks like crazy towards rear of the bed

BAK makes their's under other brand names. Line-X covers are BAK models with the Line-X logo. I get it for the same price when i get my bed sprayed. I try not to get too bent out of shape about leaking tonneau covers. The bracket for the support rods is more an issue for me. They bounce out of the holder and the holders will pop out of the frame.

I like my Bak, 2yrs and no issues. Plus Real Tuck is very easy to deal with. First one they sent wrong rails and sent me another in 2 days and let me keep the rollup tonneau part. Now I have a spare.
I'd hate to deal with Ford for warranty issues.
