What are you towing with your 6th Gen Ranger?

Picked up a small tractor yesterday weight with trailer around 2500kg-2700kg 5500lbs-6000lbs,
And where can i get a lower tow hitch with an euro spec 50mm ball, i only find ones with an 2"ball unloaded the trailer is driving on only 1 axle

Can anyone shed some light on the Ford Towing Brochure that states

Ranger Max Frontal Cross Section towing limits.....includes vehicle + trailer in the cross section

no tow package 30 sq ft
with tow package 55 sq ft


with most 3500-5000 lb trailers being roughly 10' high by 7' wide.....doesn't this put these trailers out of the limits stated by Ford?

Maybe you have to deduct the frontal area of tge tow vehicle as it hits wind resistance also???

yet the wording is "Ranger/trailer combination...."

So i read it as, when you stand in front of the Ranger with trailer attached, what you see is all frontal area that the wind will be hitting....

I mean a surface completely vertical makes sense, but the sloped part of the truck (i.e. windshield) can't be as harsh as the vertical part of grill area. And most trailer fronts are rounded as well for this reason.

Still just trying to make sense of it all.

Yeah ran into the is same thing when i was looking at it. sounds pretty much like it's to cover there butt and explain why you ate getting 12mpg instead of 20 .

This type of 50mm ball has the same bolt spacing as a pintle hitch. I use one for a Euro spec Thule bike rack I have.

You can find adjustable pintle mounts in many heights.

Barely broken in and my 2.7 is about to make a 500mi tow to NCM in KY with my TT350Z so I can compete in the SCCA Time Trial Nationals. Tongue weight seems good, brake controller gain is set, here's hoping

Haven’t had it for long, but I pull a 22 foot boat, just shy of 5000 lbs fully loaded and topped off. Handles a lot like my old F-150 did. No issues so far.

Just finished a 4500 mile road trip to Texas towing our 17' (3000# wet) Casita trailer. Pic is outside of Big Bend National Park, Texas. Truck doesn't look the greatest wearing about 3000 miles of road grime. The Ranger pulled like a champ. Computer MPG of 19.1., hand calculated 18.5. That beats our previous tow vehicle (VW Touareg with 3.6lt V6) which averaged 15.9 MPG, hand calculated. The Ranger tows better and has more usable power though both engines are rated at 270hp.

In case you have not seen this guide, be aware that trailer frontal area is very important with these compact trucks. You should tell us which Ranger you have, and which towing package.

Since you live where there are steep mountains, always err on the side of caution when picking a trailer, for example no more than 80% of your rated max trailer weight (with the trailer fully stocked and loaded). Unfortunately most people buy the truck and then look for the trailer, this can cause big problems, because they end up pushing the safety margin too far, or exceeding it entirely.

Boy, you have no excuse for not going. Corpus Christi is a lot closer to Big Bend than central Virginia.We visited Terlingua which certainly had a long mining history.
