So I finally was about to pull the trigger on a Raptor order. Sat down with the dealer. They told me they were allocated 1 Raptor Ranger. I warned them that if there was a Market Adjustment I would have to reconsider doing this order. Well after 40 minutes of waiting, they came back was a TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLAR adjustment. Final price before trade would have been $83,000 with taxes. I'm sorry thats BS. The next closest dealer said $5000. Ugh... this hunt for one this late is an adventure.
Well that Sucks!
But I can see where the Raptor has a Rare factor - I can swallow a small market adjustment -
The standard XLT should not see any markup, I would not think. There are a lot of options coming on the market. I assume Ford and Dealers want to sell trucks "if they can" I see a big slow down in purchases being noted on some reputable auto sites.

If you have cash the absolute best move is to finance and then pay off the loan in the first month or two (as long as there's no penalty for doing so). If you want to be nice to the dealer, you can ask them how long it takes for the dealership to get their cut from the loan company (usually 3-5 months).

No salesman is persuaded by you saying you will pay all cash and if they have someone else that will be financing, the car will go to that person instead.
I completely agree with you - this will be your best bet!
And decline the extended warranty.. (my opinion )

Extended warranty is fine but don’t buy it from your dealer. Buy it from Granger or Flood at a few bucks over cost.

Would you rather pay $5,000 and enjoy the truck now or pay $5,000 later at some undisclosed time for the same truck?

The way I see it:

Would you rather pay an additional $5,000 over sticker now and enjoy the truck now, or would you rather wait 12-18 months and get the same truck for $5,000 under sticker? That's a $10k swing which is the difference between being upside down in the purchase or having positive equity in it.

These trucks will be all over the roads like ants in another year, interest rates will be coming down, automakers will be getting hungry to increase sales again. There will be rebates and deals everywhere.

You seem to be mistaken this discussion is about non-raptor trims.

If you aren't, everything you've said will not be happening.

Interest rates aren't going down anytime soon, especially as there continues to be talks of an upcoming recession in 2024.

Its funny, but there could actually be an event where if the numbers are right, and you always pay your vehicle off early, you could actually justify a 120 month loan to keep money going in other places (as in money making paths).

120 month loans are retarded, but they do carry a few small benefits, much lower payment and a locked interest rate, this allows you to free up cash flow in other ventures. This would only work with the right APR though, even if you plan to pay it off halfway through the term in 60 months anyhow. You need the right institute and a 800+ score to pull this off though.

Let me repeat, 120 month loan terms are extremely stupid outside of a specific set of variables.

I decided to wait the storm out. Heres why im thinking this.

1. Ill try to find one used. Given people willing to pay 5k-20k over msrp, theres going to be a percentage of people who will underestimate those monthly payments for a small truck.

2. im not going to support the dealers who do this. Theres a reason why i can afford to pay cash or finance, im not stupid with my money.

3. Large inventories not selling now, incentives probably have to be coming or theres going to be an major inventory stockpile if they keep building.

its interesting to see Toyota not having this bad of an inventory problem. Yes adding ADMs increase margins but so does selling volumes of cars. My thought is this could be related to upcoming UAW talks and possible strikes (all big 3 companies have negotiations, this is a major time for the UAW) as a result. Build & retain inventory to weather a possible coming storm. Im still making pre-covid, pre-inflation wages and my contract runs out October. If vehicles have adjusted for inflation, the worker wages and benefits are about to as well. Dealers may be using ADMs to as an inventory tactic.

people can pay their adms if they want to. Its your choice. But i got a brand new motorcycle for half of what they want to charge me and at least i can get around with that.

Why anyone would be willing to accept any market adjustment is beyond me.

If you buy your Raptor with a 5 or 10k adjustment, and suddenly change your mind, you think any dealer will give you that difference on top of trade in value? No way. If they wouldnt do it, you shouldnt pay it.

I mean the answer is really quite simple it's my money and I'll do what I want with it.

This is like asking why somebody would make a $5,000 donation to an orphanage.
