I'm currently with Progressive. I just got a quote to replace my 2019 F-250 with a 2025 Ranger and the quote came in $350/annually less expensive. I was surprised.

I come from a LONG line of midsize, fullsize, and now HD pickup trucks and SUVs, so I unfortunately have gotten a good taste of which vehicles cost more to insure over the years. For example, Nissan and Toyota always cost more. And typically midsize 4x4s cost more than fullsize 4x4s (I assume because they are used off-road more often and they are also less safe in crashes). But, lo and behold this Ford Ranger seems like a very economical truck in the insurance industry.

Between the insurance rate cut, the improved fuel economy, and the reduction in monthly payment I am very strongly considering going back to the Ford Ranger. I bought a new one fresh out of college (first year of the FX4 package) as a congrats gift to myself and now that I'm just a few years away from retiring from my current job maybe I'll order myself another one as a congrats for nearly 25 years of working for the citizens :D

My truck was cheaper than the Tacoma TRD OR I sold prior. I would think theft of Tacomas is what made them higher but I am by no means an expert.

What is crazy is how much an EV is to put insurance on. My friend has a Model 3 and his insurance went up like $80/month. I quoted a Model S just to see if his insurance co was screwing him and it went up by $600 for a 6 mo period, craziness.

I just changed insurance companies after shopping around (shopping around for insurance is something we should all be doing every 3-5 years), and of our 4 vehicles, our new bronco sport, new ranger lariat, and diesel e-class are all within $50/yr of each other and our gle benz is 30% more.

Which company did you go with? I switch pretty much annually if they try to increase my rates more than 3%.

That's a pretty good rate. I pay about $1022 annually for my ranger raptor (Geico).

I’m now with Erie for my non-motorcycle vehicles, but I’m sure it goes without saying that a lot of factors influence rates (age, location, driving history, credit history, home ownership, etc). But with that said, I do agree that my rates aren’t bad, especially compared to what I paid in my younger days.

I pay the same amount as I did for my GR86 which cost half the price of the RR.

I saw a big drop when I switched from my 04 GTI. If your vehicle has safety features like AEB and rear cross traffic alert, etc, they generally result in a big discount, to where you pay less for insurance than an older less safety equipped vehicle.

I went from a 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro to a 24 Ranger Raptor and my insurance cost decreased. I was shocked.

Insurance rates vary greatly depending on where you live. Having a lot of uninsured motorists and living in a densely populated area means your insurance is going to be higher than say rural Kansas. Plus pickup trucks are more expensive to insure vs cars and SUVs, and vehicles in general are more expensive. The best quote I got was from Safeco, which was 30% less than my current carrier State Farm. Liberty Mutual was about 40% more than State Farm. All were quoted 500/500, so pretty high coverage since there are a lot of expensive cars around here and I don't feel like going to court to sue any lowlifes without proper coverage.

My Raptor costs about $150 per year more than my Subaru, with identical coverages. Costing more makes sense given that the Raptor is more expensive and probably less safe in a crash, but I was surprised that it was so close.

I had Safeco for about 4 years and when I traded my 2020 F150 Raptor for my 2024 Ranger Raptor my insurance went up about $300. I was kind of shocked because the MSRP was higher on my 2020 Raptor. Then I thought maybe it's because the crash ratings on the Ranger Raptor were bad? I originally swapped to Safeco because the rates on my old insurance kept creeping up little by little and finally got to where I said WTH? This is too much. So I swappped my 4 vehicles over to Safeco and saved about $600. Safeco started creeping up little by little and went up again when I got the RR and then I realized my rates doubled over 4 years and I was paying $3k per year. I swapped over to Country Way and my rates are about $1600 for 4 vehicles.
Somebody in this thread mentioned swapping insurance every few years. Given my experience in the last several years I would have to agree with him.

Also factor in that some States charge extra to register an EV or Hybrid because they are not nailing you on gas tax. Kanas charges cars under 4,500 lbs $30, those over 4,500 lbs are $40, hybrids and plug-in are $50, and EV's are $100. There is also a personal property tax that is based upon how old your vehicle happens to be (the newer the vehicle, the greater the tax means no incentive to buy a new vehicle) and what county you happen to live in.

Just so you know, Safeco and Liberty Mutual are the company. Just like Farmers and Bristol west.
