Ford Ranger Raptor R Engine Preference

If Ford ever released a Ranger Raptor R with a larger engine, what would be your preference for the engine? I feel like if Ford did pull the trigger on one, they would likely either put a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it or, more likely, a 3.5L EcoBoost V6.

In the F-150 the 5.0 only produces 400 horsepower. It weighs more and has less torque than the 3.0 currently in the Raptors. Aside from a cool noise it doesn't get you anything.

The Coyote 5.0 could be tuned to make up to 500 horsepower if Ford were inclined to do so, since that’s what it produces in other low-production specialty vehicles like the Mustang Dark Horse. That would give it more HP then the standard Ranger Raptor and would probably get a lot of enthusiasts excited.

However, I do agree with you that among the two, the 3.5L would probably be the better overall option because of the nature of its power output as well as its weight and size.

With a FP tune I am already above that, Supercharged V8 if it will fit gets my vote especially if it has Brembo brakes like the PP Gt.

5.0 without cylinder deactivation. Like a gen 2 5.0 I think? Reliability + nice linear power. Wouldn't ever want the 3.5L in anything I own...

I was a teen in the 90s in Australia and was surrounded by iconic Japanese cars, so I have a soft spot for v6 turbos! I’ll keep the current 3.0lt v6 TT thanks.

Maybe just a factory option for larger turbos, larger intercooler and more aggressive tune?

The tuned 3.5 I had in my '18 F150 was flawless for 5 years. Next owner had to do cam phasers but that was a known issue. Apparently can still be an issue on the 3.0 (buddy was a Ford service manager). I don't think the 3.5 offers enough benefit to warrant the upgrade. With a real tune the 3.0 has plenty of go power.

If we're just going on wish list, I would like to see V8, mostly for the noise and to simplify things a bit from all the turbo-related mess that winds its way all over the engine bay currently. I would like a larger displacement like the Godzilla, all aluminum so you don't add weight, keep low down torque and get that V8 sound. If I understood what I read in the other thread, the 7.3 actually is packaged better/smaller than the 5.0 as it isn't DOHC.

I have Ranger XL,, no Raptor. But I've always been curious about a ecciost 5.0. I know the 5.0 is not designed for it. But there are quite a few aftermarket supercharged 5.
0 engines around.

I'd like to see a godzilla engine. Big block and not any bigger than the coyote. They arre already transplanting them in the Broncos and rangers
