Lariat Top Glove Box Install on XLT

Thank you guys for the write up on this mod. Now you have me wanting to do it. lol. So if I want to just swap out the storage unit and dont care about not matching the cluster surround I would need to just order part #N1WZ2606202-LA. But if I wanted to order the cluster trim to match the leather on the new storage unit I would order #N1WZ-2604338-LA. Is this correct? Thanks

I decided not to guinea pig the XLT trim in place of leather Lariat. I put it in today and I like the look of the leather. Going to order the piece for above the dash next.

Yes, there is a thread I started asking what people keep in there. Lots of people responded they kept a gun,couple magazines and a knife in there.

Installed my glovebox today after deciding not to return it after being damaged in shipping mainly because they are rumored to be backordered with no ETA of when I might get another one. I epoxied the piece back on and it held really well. The whole thing took about an hour because at the start I suffered from FOBC Fear of Breaking Clips and tried to pry the honeycomb piece off gently. That didn't go over so well and had to close my eyes and just pull. The other time sink was trying to find all the blue clips (and white from the back piece) but eventually found them. Probably 6 in total.

Here's my experience:

There were just 3 bolts holding it in (not 4 as mentioned in original instructions) the bottom one is hidden under the shelf. My 7mm socket was missing from my set for some reason but a 9/32 worked just as well. I put the bottom bolt back in even though it doesn't hold the new trim just for possible vibration issues. The top2 bolts then hold the new dash piece in.

After installing I was disappointed to see that the color of the leather door and the plastic on the dash is a slate grey and not black. I guess the XLT and below have black dash and armrest and Lariat is grey. It has been mentioned here in previous posts but here are some pics to really see the difference in color. Too late to turn back now but if it is something that will bother you then it could be a deal breaker. It is most noticeable from the passenger side seat and when opening the door.

Huh, I just looked at and saw they were different. Glad I ordered the other side around the instrument cluster last week. Since everything is either black or gray, it doesn’t bother me. I am still thrilled with it.

Unfortunately, this is just the result of different production lots or different manufacturers for different parts of the dash. There's only only one part number for the main dash assembly across all trims. This is a picture of my stock driver's side trim. Three different colors and textures which are not as obvious in this picture. My stock passenger XLT trim piece was a pretty good match but definitely different than the Lariat glove box. Luckily with tinted windows, it's not super obvious while in the truck.

some input, I don't think there is any getting around breaking a bunch of the clips on the stock upper panel.

Only two bolts needed to be removed on mine to swap the assembly, here's a pic of the back side to give a bit more detail for locations of the clips and what not

Some people brought up the connector the the lighting and I was unable to find wiring for it on my xlt. It is still accessible from underneath after installing if you remove the glovebox, I think I'll eventually figure out a way to wire it in but that's for another day.

All said and done, fit and finish is great, install was a breeze and it cost about $50, great mod. Thanks to OP for being he guinea pig on this!

Maybe you are confused. The matching driver side panel is around $120
Or, the price of the glove box, the XLT panel and shipping is about $117.
I ordered the box and the XLT panel and then decided not to try to put the XLT panel on.

Does the color of the plastic trim match? I’ve seen a couple of replies saying it didn’t, so I’m hesitant to order it.

Slight mis match. Didn't even notice it untill someone pointed it out. Doesn't bother me, not very noticeble.

Seems like there are a dozen ccdifferent shades of gray, charcoal and black used in the interior. I didn’t notice it either until it was poitout recently in the post. I’ll fix that when the lariat trim for the driver side comes in this week.

These little "clips" everyone speaks of, how was that handled? Just order from Ford Parts and wait longer or would a local dealer/parts store carry these? Thx!
