My experience is from ACC in a Toyota Highlander (don't have that package on my XLT), so probably behaves slightly different, but I mostly hate it. In freeway driving it slows me down way before I would even think of passing, then I have to put my foot into it to maintain normal speed while passing (not going fast even, just passing semis). On two lane roads I don't typically find myself passing anyway, so it matters less, but it doesn't do anything better than me adjusting cruise control to match traffic if needed. Sounds like with Ford you can at least switch to normal cruise, with Toyota it's all you get if you have that option

I'm not sure if there is another level of lane centering from what I have, but I keep it off. Otherwise it will bump my steering when I have plenty of room, or a narrow road will make it go crazy. Doesn't do well with lane revisions where you can see the old lanes either.

Hated it when I first used it in my wife's Flex, but after getting used to it, I found that it can be very useful. On my Mustang, I have even had situations where it comes to a complete stop during a traffic jam. Like anything mechanical, it is a tool that can be useful when used the right way.

I like the ACC, but have the lane keeping turned off. This is the first vehicle I’ve had with it. I’m much more annoyed at drivers that pull out in front of me than I am at the ACC braking to keep me from rear-ending the car or semi in front of me. And way less annoyed than at the guy doing 10 mph under the speed limit in the left lane.

in Toyota and ford you can change the follow distance. It’s also not a big deal to bump up the speed setting with a couple of clicks when passing and then dropping it back down, but that is true of cruise control in general

i think it is like anything, there is a time to use it and a time not to,

Haven't even checked to see if my cruise control works.
Same here. I have never even attempted to use my RR’s adaptive cruise control (same with regular cruise control) or any of the other driver aids mentioned in this thread (lane keeping, etc.).

For me personally, I have nothing against these features and am indifferent to their inclusion on my truck but I don’t ever forsee myself using them.

It is a great thing, during rush hour it even stops and accelerates again. Love it with lane centering, but... the big BUT is a very stupid system that does not feel your hands on steering wheel, but wants you to turn the steering wheel every 20 seconds.

If this system would feel your hand on the steering wheel instead of forcing you to dangerously steer when you do not want to, I would give it 10 points. Because of this it gets 7.5

Just wondering what other people thought about, (ACC) Adaptive Cruise Control

I don't like Adaptive Cruise Control. Twice driving down to TN cruising at 70mph some idiot would pull in front of me at a close distance and ACC would jam on the brakes, I tighten the distance and it still happened.

Or if you're coming up on a slow moving car it will throw the anchor out right about the time you're sliding over into the left lane to pass.

A vehicle should only do what I tell it to do, when I tell it to do it.
I like it, for when just driving down the street or highway and approaching another vehicle, the gentle reduction in speed, without canceling cruise... allowing you to change lanes and go around as needed.
However... when a vehicle in front of you slows for turning, it only sees it as an obstruction, then usually & needlessly slows your truck down way before you're even close to the turning vehicle (even on the closest setting), since it only sees something there and doesn't know they will likely be gone before you get to that point... very annoying! Would be nice if there was a setting to have it wait 1-2 seconds longer and then apply brakes a little harder as needed, if the vehicle isn't gone by then. IMO

Like it or hate it, the insurance companies and auto manufacturers have determined we are stupid and what they can control and influence, they will control and influence. Waiting for AI to completely take over and start arguing with you: "Is this trip really necessary? Why are you idling so much? Have you noticed you reach too often for your drink cup? Did you know your coffee is really hot? Your cold drink is sweating into the cup holder...again. You should stop eating while driving and those crumbs are getting caught in the seat perforation. You need to clean the inside windshield more often...I'll remind you. Can you dust off the dash board at least once a year?" May have to marry the truck to put up with all of that.

Hint: If you disable it --- it will still show its ability to work.
If you have it OFF and are using cruise control, if someone pulls in front of you it will still slow you down some.

It is terrible and I leave it off on all my vehicles. Two days ago my opinion was reaffirmed when I had to drive a vehicle about 500 miles that had it on and it almost caused a wreck within the first 40 miles when someone casually merged into my lane and as I am moving over to the left lane it SLAMS on the brakes unnecessarily right as I am starting to get over. I made sure the sensitivity was all the way down rry to keep going with it on and ended up pulling over to turn it off. It is probably a great feature for bad/lazy/distracted/intoxicated drivers, anyone that has better things to do than to be an active and attentive driver.

IMO, ACC and LK should never have put on any vehicle.

Driving is a privilege, not a right.

I had it on my 2020 Explorer ST and disabled it and set my Cruise Control to "old school" cruise control. Then I did the Explorer ST Driving Experience; there they showed you everything ACC can do for your daily driving experience. I became a convert. I use it daily, but when I am in "traffic" I keep my rt foot ready because sometimes traffic suddenly slows before ACC can react in what I would call a reasonable timely manner so I break and it sometimes overreacts when someone pulls in front of you or takes too long to make their turn, in those instances you can override the sudden breaking by "gently " stepping on the gas.

I didn’t mind it in my Fusion sport and wife’s Edge ST. Do not care for it in the RR.
