For air filter i like these K&N throw aways. $21 for an 18k mile filter.

I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 with the AMSOIL EA15K43 filter, which filters down to 20 microns at 99% efficiency, compared with Motorcraft’s 30 microns at 80%.
I might change the oil I use because Pennzoil is showing lower viscosity than it should, according to a lab test.
I noticed that in your Blackstone reports although I see that a lot with 5W-30 oils. I'm going to go with Pennzoil Platinum instead of the ultra, maybe it will make a difference. With the intervals we are going with I don't see the need for the extra additives in the Ultra and who knows maybe that has something to do with it's viscosity.

I wouldn't. It's thinner than PUP.

I am not sure if it's the oil or something going on with the engine. According to the test, engine is going strong. The Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is definitely a better oil vs the Motorcraft blend as I had more miles on the Pennzoil. I will keep testing every oil change and will switch brands if the viscosity comes back low again with Pennzoil.

5k changes PUP isn’t necessary. I’ve got multiple samples from 2.7 ecos and 5.0s using Supertech, Quaker State and PP synthetics. I wouldn’t go more than 6.5k but they would make it to 10k, if semi syn does (while not ideal it will).

Thanks for the pdfs, interesting.
I am by no means an oil expert, far from it. I don't understand the whys and why nots of different oils. But one thing I have seen, and this is with Mobil 1 ESP on Sprinters with diesel engines, the M1 0W-30 actually held it's viscosity better than the M1 5W-30 after a normal interval. Yes I know, they are different low viscosity weights from the get go and the Pennzoil products are not.

I've already bought my PP so maybe I'll be the guinea pig here and run it for my first oil change, then switch to PUP for my second and see if there is any difference. It may take awhile though as this Ranger will only see around 5,000 miles/year.

I've used all PUP, PP without data though. For now I use M1 AFE 0W30 gets my vote because it runs well winter and summer and carry Ford recommendation. I'll do a UOA in the spring oil change to see engine wear and fuel dilution mainly. Truck has seen 3 oil changes since July 2025.

M1 ESP 0W30 is not FORD 963 recommended. I carry and use it for my VW Golf

I use the dealer every 5k. I have been using full synthetic and new filter each time. Years ago I used Jiffy Lube or changed it myself but since turbo engines I let my dealer do it. A question: I am considering getting a Ronin plug and asking the dealer to put it in at the first change. Anyone asked their dealer to do that? Anyone use any other aftermarket plug other than Ronin?
Its easy to do the oil change. Patience is key. Pull the plug out slowly and hold for good 5-7mins to let slowly drain, then pull the plug out. The ronin plug is very easy to install

I'm not sure a dealer would do it but ask the service manager. Once the plug is in oil changes are a breeze.

I use Valvoline line full synth

Absolutely no need to worry about using PP 5W-30 at those intervals. It too meets the current Ford specification.

Any experience with turbo damage or failure as result of dirty or clogged banjo type turbo oil filter?
Maybe this video makes sense or maybe just scare tactics... but maybe low cost maintenance that can potentially save big bucks? What's your opinion.

I did some research after watching the video, there is a filter. For the 2.3l looks like it is part of the oil feed line, you can clearly see it on a diagram. I've never heard of this filter before.

I would imagine there are filters, just like your ac lines have filters to catch junk so your compressor doesnt get messed up

NAPA 5W-30 Synthetic. All NAPA Sythetic oils are made by Valvoline. They are identical. Might as well save some $$. I like OEM Ford filters, but NAPA Gold filters are also high quality.
