I am very curious about this myself. Did you ever figure out if the Rangers have the same setup as the Broncos? My 2024 Ranger came without a hitch but did already have a 4-pin and I'd like to add OEM parts if possible to wire up the 7-pin properly. Can I provide you a VIN for a search by chance?

Please see attached photos. The exploded view, shows the harness that contains the connector, and there's a photo of the plug and it's location. We did a few 2024 Broncos. In cact, the Bronco without a hitch, is prewired to the back bumper for a 7 pin. Add bracket and 7 pin at the rear, TRM, dash switch and program, and voila, you have the trailer brake option. Do you perchance have your vin available?

see my comment in this post. but gmyou can go on www.fordparts.com and its ford of america parts website. look up part numbers.

I guessing you need the harness that goes from from bumper/frame to the 4/7pin plug and the 4/7pin plug. I think they all come with the trailer module. on the infotainment home screen do you have a trailer/towing app?

Thanks, just trying to see if I have the necessary pre-wire to attach the harness to. Mine is a 24 STX with no options - basic tow is not specified. But then it does have the trailer/towing app on the Sync screen, and does come with a 4 pin. So I added a Curt hitch and am trying to figure out if the 7 pin harness can swap in at the rear or if the whole loom to the front is also inferior.

that is thr basic tow package. No tow package listed on window sticker IS tow package Level 1 according to ford.

level 2 gives you hitch and 4/7pin plug. what I have

and level 3 like above, gets you the intragrated brake controller.

you have the bumper ball mount. 4 pin, and trailer module/app. aka basic tow package(again not actually listed as tow package in window sticker. should just need the 4/7pin plug, the harness from the frame connector to the new plug and you already got the aftermarket hitch.
curt might even have the harness needed to connect to the factory frame plug at the rear of truck to remove the 4pin plug to put in the 4/7pin plug

The problem that was brought to light, when trying to get the maximum towing capability out of a level one tow package ie no tow package truck, was that the brake on off signal which was generated from the body control. Module was not activated on those trucks. Now you can tap a brake signal for your trailer, brake controller, elsewhere, but it won't go active on automatic emergency breaking, there might be a workaround if you can tap the high amount of stoplight, that was done on the previous model to give you a signal for your brake controller under automatic emergency breaking, as well as normal breaking. You can test to see if the high amount of stoplight goes high during automatic emergency, breaking by backing towards say a shrub with automatic mercy breaking on and seeing if that light goes on when the truck automatic emergency breaks without putting your foot on the brake pedal

Thanks. This was my thought too. Curt has a harness but it's only a 7 pin. I was looking at the parts listed in the previous post and found the 4/7 plug from Ford, but the harness at Ford parts is generic and has a variety of pigtail kits not sure which one I need. And then do I need to install the bracket and module at the driver front as well? Plus, as RangerDanger says, I don't think it all works correctly out of the box, and it will need some amount of programming, which I guess means going to Ford, if they are willing to reprogram?

if you got the tow app on the screen, you should have the trailer module. just take the kick panel off and see if its behind it. Ill see what the part # is for my trailer plug and the harness on the ford canada parts website. unlike ford parts america, they show the diagrams. lol

Can't see a module in there, and I definitely do not have the gray plug associated with the TRC in that driver's front harness assembly. But I DO have the Towing app with trailer options. If there is a module, it must be up rather than down behind the kickplate? Can you verify where exactly your TRM lives? I did find a TRM on a parts site but would need to sort whether there is a wiring option too, or if the no/low tow package has a whole different harness assembly going back to the bumper? I thought not, if we can all get the 7 pin. I don't have that yet but all signs point to it being possible for all Rangers with stock wiring. So that would imply I can also get a TRM wired up somehow, though it would likely need programming activation.

Appreciate this post but looks like I'm going to pass. Put in an order for a Ranger XLT two days ago and added all sorts of options, but somehow completely missed the integrated side steps... can't blame my salesman as I also went out a build list multiple times.

They really should include this standard, or as a package. On the Ford build list, it's listed under accessories like tool boxes and bed covers, along with 30 other things I was not interested in. Really should have put it somewhere else.

I had thought this was standard on the XLT so it is what it is. Hopefully I'm still nimble enough to not need it because I can't justify spending a grand on this!

Cancel or amend the order. Also add locking rear diff for 420 if your not getting FX4. That cheap upgrade alone will make a huge difference. three must haves for me, 1. Locking rear differential, 2. Tow package, 3. Side steps. all great additions all very hard or impossible to add after the fact.

Got a solid deal locked down and put in a $500 non refundable deposit for the order. Also signed a document stating once the order is submitted it cannot be amended. So no dice

Honestly, for 500 bucks, i'd walk away. You could call the sales manager and explain your wants. worst case you loose 500. I'll bet they amend to sell a truck and keep a customer happy. The older i've got, the more I realize it's just people behind these 'rules' . worst case, 500 bucks on a $40,000 transaction for the truck you really want, ain't much I'd do it. No brainer to me, but I'll bet they'll change their tune. Even if you don't, I'd still order what I want.

Thanks for the advice, but like I said, we already negotiated a price im happy with and signed papers. Yes, maybe they could cancel and re do the order but then that opens up the negotiations all over again.

After thinking about it I realized I'd never use the integrated side steps. I keep my gear towards the front of a truck bed, so need to climb into the bed, not just reach over the sidewall. And climbing into the bed from the integrated step would not be easier.

Much easier to step onto the bumper below the tailight, onto the lowered tailgate, and walk in.

If I could go back, yes id get the steps, but at this point I'll take all the other cool bells and whistles I actually wanted

The other alternative is to buy the aftermarket units for around $300 and pay a body shop to install them. I checked with a local shop (after the fact) and they told me about $250. I did them myself, took about 7 hours but I was 68 at the time so I don’t work as fast as I used to. My knees don’t even allow me to use them, but they look cool.
