Hello everyone, a new member here,

I had read some posting about oil pressure gage reading, on ford ranger, so it seems this might be common problem.

I have 2025 ford ranger XLT, 4x4 with 2.3 eco boost engine with 4600 miles on odometer, that has erratic oil pressure reading.

At stop light in city shows about 25 to 30 PSI, when traffic starts rolling, some time the pressure goes up to 95 PSI, and on another lime might goes down to 22, 23 Psi or graph does not move at all. Cold temp engine, or normal operating temp does not makes any difference.

On freeway ramps, sometime, pressure stays around 35 PSI all the way to 70 miles and sometimes goes up to 95 PSI then settles back around 45 to 55 PSI, which I think is normal range.

I have taken the car to dealer, but I do not think they test drive it and just telling me pressure is normal, which does not make sense to me. Am thinking about taking to another dealer for second opinion. I was told this new truck has variable pressure oil pump, which I am not familiar with, could that have anything to do with reading.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem and what did you do to resolve the issue.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you. It is corrected. Next time I will check my computer dictation more closely.
Thank you again.

You can get one of those OBD2 readers that plug into the port and use an App like Torque Pro on your phone to monitor the oil and other data, then you'll have a comparison to the trucks gauge which might be faulty.
The one i use is OBD Link MX+ from Amazon, there are cheaper alternatives to.
You could also ask the service dept to get a pressure reading using their scan tool if they didn't do that at the first dealer you went to.
Good luck let us know the outcome.

Mine was doing that and I noticed it kinda conicided with the turbo boost, some mentioned it was related to the varible cam timing?

Thank you for your respond. Did you do anything about it. Should I worry about it.

Variable pressure oil pump. One more modern complexification to think about. Maybe helps something somewhere sometimes somehow?
If you aren’t throwing codes I can’t imagine it’s anything to worry about.

I would hate to tell you not to worry about it and then have something happen. What I would do is really watch how the oil pressure interacts with the throttle/turbo response, keeping in mind that there may be a slight delay depending on the sensors reporting. Insist on going with the tech on the road test so you can point out your concerns, if they say all is good, get a written report.

Thank you all for responses. I have the truck checked by one dealer, and talk to another one on phone. They both say it is normal. So I guess I will buy one of those OBD2 reader to check things for myself. I am more concern about this issue, since I lost my 2018 F150 engine in this past January while dealer was telling me nothing is wrong. Needless to say I made them pay for it. So I do not want to go through another engine change. Thank you again everyone.

It is normal operation. Oil pressure is not a constant.
