FYI - According to FP Tech Service
There are NO TUNE updates nor any expected.
The only updates are firmware to the tablet, not the ECU.

Reason? Too costly for recertifications, testing and CARB approval

Essentially, after successful initial tune load....leave it alone! [unless a compelling cause or other issue]
That's what I meant in my post.
As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Update: Spoke to Joe at Ford Performance just now and he was able to get the tunes back on the device. Back in action!

P.S. I’ll never hit the update button again 🤣

Firmware Update to the device is what had me in limbo

What was the process to recover the Procal? Might help someone else out in the future, thanks!

Here are the steps as requested.

1.) Call Ford Performance at 1(800) 367-3788 then press 2 for technical support.

2.) Explain your issue to the technician.

3.) Provide them with the following info:
• Year, Make, and Model
• VIN#
• Voucher ID #
• On your PC, screenshot the ProCal app
• On the handheld, take a picture of the error or issue
• On the handheld, take a picture of the “Device Info” option

The Calibration Engineer called me, accessed my laptop remotely, and had me taken care of in about 10 minutes. Hope this information is helpful. Reach out if you have any questions that I may be able to assist you with.

I'm glad this got resolved for you. I think a good number of owners with the tune (and those thinking about it) just let out a big sigh of relief!

IIRC, the updates only update the tuner, not the tune itself. So, there's really no reason to update it if everything already works.
You might have to download your original OEM settings since the S/W was changed in the tuner.
The important thing you mention is there no update is and almost assuredly won't be an update to the tune (per Ford). Not sure about the tool, but you wouldn't hook that up to the truck even were there an update it would be updated on the Ford Performance site.

Happy you got it resolved. I wonder what will happen when Ford sends out a PCM update. Ford Performance will have to update their tune also. Our F150 PCM has been updated once.

PCM updates for FP Pro Cals' are rare, but they do occur. I had one on my 2016 Mustang GT PP. Had the Stage 2 Power Pack, after about 6 mo. they released an updated version, not for reliability, but for some emissions compliance reasons that CARB didn't originally test (i.e., shutting the throttle body after the engine turns off, that wasn't part of the original release, then people were freaking out because they 5.0L's were making a clunking sound immediately during shut-off, which was just the throttle body shutting for emissions).

I'll have to test my pro-cal since I updated the software on the programmer months ago but never bothered to plug it into the truck as I have had no need or desire to re-program nor will I unless an issue arises as part of trouble shooting (dealer will normally ask you to revert back to stock if it's an engine or transmission related issue just to weed out the Pro Cal as a possible cause).

Although that was not possible with my GT since the Stage 2 was far more than just an ECU flash, it was the whole GT350 throttle body and CAI along with some vacuum line changes etc. Not really a way to go back without a lot of work on hardware.

The RR is nice since it's just a software mod, so I carry the pro-cal in the truck in case of an unlikely, but possible emergency where I could not find 91 or high octane (never happened to me and don't know anyone who ever has run across that, but there are some very remote areas where a few people have run into that before).

Heads up, next time just use HPTuners to write the ECU to get back on the road.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just have a couple bottles of octane boost in case you can’t find 91 octane or better fuel? I think that would be easier than messing with reverting to the stock tune.
